When filling out the pdf (on the I-485 and honestly others for AOS), I am occasionally finding fields once in a while that I can not click on. So I’m typing it all, but have the occasional random field that won’t work. I would assume it’s okay to print these (when I’m done) and just fill those missing in Black ink? Has any one else needed to do this? I would hope it wouldn’t be a big deal if it’s legible..

I did not have this problem. I used Acrobat Reader on Windows. The forms are "smart" and there are some rules baked into it.

So if you check a box that means you don't have to fill in the next section, it will gray it out (and make sure you don't type into it).

Are you sure you're required to fill in the fields you're unable to fill in?

Hey JQ85 --

I had the same problem as you. Regardless what computer (i.e. an IOS or a Microsoft based OS) you're currently using to complete your form the solution to your problem is that you MUST have the most recently updated version of ADOBE ACROBAT READER in your computer. It's a free download software from Adobe official website (one google click away). This solved the problem for us and we were able to complete the form using an Apple computer and a PC.

Good luck,

J/G

Not just I-485, there are multiple forms where multiple fields wont work out of box. Doesn't matter whichever PDF reader you use. Heck, I even tried a PDF editor, but the form field was not activated, even then. For Example: The apartment field is not enabled for data entry.

The trick is: you make a note of all the fields that weren't enabled for data entry as you progress through the form. In the end, save/print the form as PDF - and enter your data using a textbox or typewriter (I used Foxit PDF)...And then save the form again. Voila - you won't have to handwrite...
