My husband is looking to file N-400 as soon as his window opens next week and we were wondering two things:

1) Is there any downside to applying online vs mailing it in?

2) How much evidence should we submit with the application? We will definitely submit a copy of his green card, his passport, our marriage certificate, and my birth certificate (U.S citizen) with the application. But we also have leases, renter's insurance, taxes, etc. from the day we were married until now. Should he just take those to the interview or is it better to submit them with the application?

 

We look forward to being added to N-400 pending list next week!

Hey, congratulations on your window opening up soon! I don't think there's any downside to applying online (in fact I feel it's a little quicker since your check gets cashed the same day, your NOA comes online sooner, etc.). But I've also heard that the actual interview process is quicker if you mail your application (not sure how true it is)

 

I'm also applying based on marriage but i did provide some proof in addition to the items they requested, just to be overly cautious and since I didn't think it would harm (I provided them with our apartment lease, joint insurance, andbenefit coverage from employer).

I live two hours away from the closest ASC. I chanced it this morning and was able to do a successful walk-in for my biometrics.

1) I think online is faster comparing to mailing in and you can also upload additional docs right away if you have more. If you have RFE, you can also upload it which shorten your time. 

2)  Other than requested items, I sent lease, joint bank statements, IRS tax transcript 3 years back, copy of tickets travelling together in the past 3 year and utility bills. For the bills and bank statements, I just send 3 copies each. But will bring all of my docs at the interview date.

04/09/14 - USCIS Noa1 notice date and check cashed next day

04/11/14 - Got text/e-mail notification for I-485, I-131 and I-765 at 1:09 a.m. & check cleared in the morning

Day 11/14 Mailed AOS Package

Day 11/16 AOS Package Accepted

Day 11/20 Received Text with receipt numbers

Day 11/21 Checks cashed

Day 11/26 -Letter for Biometrix - its on 12/20

Day 12/20/ went to do biometrics, turn away as wife has a cut on thumb - will try to walk in next week

Day 12/28 - bio metrics done ! - walked in San Diego as we were visiting my in laws.

Day 1/4/2013 - received text/email that case is ready to be scheduled for interview !

Day 1/15/2013 - received hard copy letter to let us know interview is on 2/12 !

Day 1/17/2013 - received text/email that EAD has been approved

Day 1/26/2013 - received EAD card

Day 2/12 - interview done - approved on spot!
