Done with my interview and approved. Just received an email oath ceremony has been scheduled. The IO was friendly but very professional. She asked for everything. Passport, green card and updated evidence since I applied for ROC. I’ll advise you get prepared when you’re filling under the 3 year rule. She thoroughly went through the application with me and confirmed it with my old file. She had AOS and ROC in front of her making sure there were no inconsistencies.

Update on my interview today in Portland, OR:

  • I was approved!
  • My appointment was at 7:45 am. I arrived at 7:40 and was out by 8:05
  • The interviews happen upstairs, not downstairs where the biometrics are done. However, DON'T go straight upstairs when you arrive - there is a receptionist to the left after you pass through security (opposite the entry to the room where the biometrics are done). They will look at your appointment letter and staple a number to it. When my turn came they called me by name, not number. I got taken through to a private room for my interview - it seems like they don't use the interview windows you can see in the waiting room.
  • The interview started with the civics, reading and writing tests, then a thorough review of my application. A few things to note:
    • They wanted to know dates of my most recent addresses and jobs - I had to try and remember these off the top of my head, so it would be good idea to have them handy
    • If anything has changed since you submitted your application, they'll need to know that too. I had started a new job since submitting my application, so needed to look up details like the employer address. Thankfully they were OK with me having my phone in the interview, but again it would be good to have that information handy.
    • They go over the long list of questions you answered "no" to (are you a terrorist, etc) on your application. After countless numbers of these, they then reach the questions you should be answering "yes" to (do you promise to uphold the constitution, etc). My interviewer didn't really change her pace or tone of voice when she reached this point in the questioning, so make sure you're listening to the questions and not just answering "no" to everything!
  • The only documents I was asked for in the interview were my green card, drivers licence and passport
  • I had the option to do a same-day oath at 1:30pm, but my wife couldn't get out of work at that time, so I asked to be scheduled for a later time. They said I would receive a letter with my oath ceremony date and time

So that's my experience at the Portland office. Everyone, from the folks manning security through to the interviewer, was very pleasant and it was a quick process.

Congrats. Just in case do you recall the questions she asked from for the set of 100?. Also I have heard some asking for passport photos (?) was that needed too?

For scheduling the oath on some other day do they let you pick the days or is it some day that they would assign to you?. Want my 1 year boys to be there on the big day :)

Hi everybody. I applied under 3 years rule. I heard that I have to go with my spouse for interview. It is right isn't it? I do not get the biometric yet but can I wake in for taking the biometric instead of waiting the time on the schedule? Thank you guys so much.

It is not a requirement for your spouse to go with you but again - some people here went with their spouses and they were called. If your I-751 is pending I would bring your spouse. And bring all the evidence you possibly can just like you were going for your first green card interview. Better be ready than sorry!

You are no longer under the 3-year rule, so I do not believe you need to bring anything. My friend went under the 5-year rule, she had divorced her husband (whom sponsored her green card) and all they asked was if she had gotten married because of the green card. Just know your answers and answer them with confidence.

Congrats to those who recently passed!

For those who had the Oath (if you’re still around, lol) did you bring passport photos to apply for your passport after the ceremony?

I don't recall all of them, but I do remember:

- Name 2 holidays

- Who is the state's governor

- Who was the first president

I wasn't asked for passport photos. They do the usual procedure of having you place your left and right index fingers on the fingerprint scanner, and take your photo.

As for scheduling the oath on another day, I haven't yet received notification of my ceremony but I also wasn't asked to choose a day, so I assume they just assign it to you.

I didn't have a pending I-751. The current status on my account says "You attended your interview. You do not need to do anything at this time", but if I look at my case history, before that status it has "We approved your application. We will mail you a letter when we schedule your naturalization ceremony", so it seems like those two statuses got added in the opposite order to how they should have appeared.
