My husband's passport from India expires on 4/2/18 (4 days after interview) and i'm not sure if we need to start the renewal process or just wait until he's a citizen since this is moving so fast. Can his passport expire between Interview and Oath? Thoughts?

I'm a late January 2018 filer. We're thinking of taking a trip back to Scotland in July but wondering if it makes sense to just stay put until all this is past? I went to biometrics in Albany NY today and asked about rough timeline for interview issue at the information window - they said about 3 months from now. I'm really curious to see how long it takes in reality because it's quite a small office, so might not be too bad. Also, I submitted a paper application but have an IOE receipt number, which sounds like a positive thing reading through this thread.

 

I'm just worried that the oath ceremony would end up getting issued when we would potentially be away. Any thoughts from anyone going through the citizenship process? Best to avoid traveling until we have all the information? Thanks!

Given the speed IOE filers seem to move at I would probably put it off until later in the year if it were me. 

 

If you do go make sure you mention the trip at your interview, since it won't have been listed on your application.

I would say yes, because the oath ceremony is the last step in the naturalization process.

I am not complaining at all, I was simply wondering whether the wait time includes the oath ceremony or not. I'm sure the field office you have to go to has a huge amount to do with how long the wait time is (along with a whole host of other factors) - I don't live in a heavily populated city, so that's probably one of the reasons the wait time may be shorter. I wish you all the best with your case! And hopefully the wait time isn't as long as stated.

My interview has been scheduled! The letter hasn't been uploaded yet so I can't see the date. I'm surprised at how fast it has come, my local office shows waiting times of 10 months but it has only been 6 weeks!

Hi fellow Michigander!  We went from a timeline of 8 months down to 6 months in the online account so I'm hopeful this will be quick....unless the passport situation becomes an issue but i figure why apply for a new passport from India when he'll be applying for US passport soon.  We're not planning on traveling.
