IOE (online) is faster. They don't seem to follow normal N-400 processing times (where NBC filers do).

are you sure? how did you conclude that ?

@guvnor I honestly have no idea why I got an interview so quick, I'm still shocked. My lawyer sent out my application on january 8th or 9th of 2018, they received it on the tenth and on the 13th of january they scheduled my biometrics for january 29, and then February 14 my status changed to interview scheduled, the next morning I checked again and the letter was there in my documents and the appointment on it is March 26 2018 at 2:45 pm in san Antonio tx. Attached is a screenshot of my case history.

good for you. I think you may be an aberration from the regular soul sucking wait times. Did you apply for naturalization based on 3 year marriage ?

By analysing data people posted to this N-400 filing progress forum, both this month and several previous months.

It shows quite conclusively that IOE filers (usually online, but some paper filers also get an IOE receipt number too) are processing months faster than USCIS' published processing times for N-400s.

are you sure you applied on Jan 10 2018? or you meant Jan 10 2017? can you tell us more specifics about your case so we can gauge whats special with your application on how you were Able to skip 12 months of wait time.. it would help us shed some light on how serious we need to take USCIS processing times. I am stuck in Nov 2016 in Miami office... MIAMI office SUCKS largely due to ridiculous amounts of N400 applied by South American immigrants.

2016?!?! Seriously? Another reason not to trust their timeline.did you make an appointment or something ?

I hope our quick and smooth process will give hope and inspiration to others waiting for citizenship. We were in the same boat, and posts of people getting their citizenship in a couple of months gave us hope that maybe we could be the lucky ones too. We filed on Jan 4, 2018, and got approved on Feb 20, 2018. Now waiting for the Oath ceremony! Best wishes to all.

hmm interesting ... so what do you think the time line would be for Online submissions. on ELIS it says 21 months for me. I really want to vote in midterms .. but it looks less and less probable by day.

Yeah Miami office based on their recent processing times are processing N400 applied in Nov 29 2016. my ROC process took 20 months (I anticipated 6 - 8 months) now the N400 for another 20 months based on what it shows on my timeline in my account is freaking depressing. This process seems like never ending..

It doesn't always go by whether you file online. Usually online filers get an IOE receipt number, and IOE numbers seem to be processed faster. Normal (paper) filers get an NBC number. But sometimes online filers get an NBC number and paper filers get an IOE number. No idea what makes it happen, it just happens.

If you have an IOE number then your application is likely to only take a few months. If you have an NBC number then your N-400 is on the slower track, and it could take over a year (depending on your field office).

The initial estimated time to completion was Feb 2019... then it changed to Jan 2019, until yesterday in which they no longer show my estimated case completion time.

So anything can happen! I'm so happy and wish you all the best of luck as well.
