My oath experience

My oath was scheduled at 10:30 in newheaven, CT

Arrived at 9:45, went through security, and waited until 10:30 to enter court room.

Once we went in, the representative from uscis gave instructions on how to hand over the documents  and received questions from people as to how to fill the oath form.

30 mins later, he started calling people by name to come up so they can hand over their green cards and other docs.

Around 11:45, the judge came in and we took the oath and sat down. She explained the importance of jury duty and voting. She covered the the whole nation of immigrants subject and she explained how her parents were immigrants and now she’s a Judge.

Around 12:30, she started naming the countries ( there were 31 countries ) then she came down and stood next to the uscis representative. He started calling people by names and country of origin. Everyone went to collect the certificate and took a photo with the judge.

Finally, she said congratulations and I wish you the best.

I was out around 1:30. Good experience overall. ( no trump video )

Hi guys,

I'm a silent reader and been following the timelines and progress of everybody on the January Filers thread. I filed my N-400 online on January 13, 2018 and my local office is in Sacramento. Just letting you guys know, since I saw someone is from Sacramento as well, that I just got an alert that USCIS just scheduled my interview. Going to wait for the letter to arrive to know the date Thanks.

Hi, Congrats! I applied online in January but I have not heard anything and I am in New Heaven but went to Hartford for fingerprint.

Hi all, I haven't posted in this thread before but I'm a January filer also. Just to say (because it was helpful to me to read others' accounts of interview, test etc.) that I had my interview yesterday in Mount Laurel, NJ. I passed, and Mount Laurel is one of the wonderful places that has same-day oath ceremonies, so I'm now a citizen!

Overall very good experience. Most stressful thing is that my appointment letter never arrived, so I had to spend most of last week on the phone with USCIS trying to convince them to fax it to me - it eventually arrived Friday evening.

My appointment was at 9. Arrived to field office around 8:50 and waited max 10 minutes before I was called in. The officer was very friendly. She did the civics test first - the questions were:

Who was brought to the US as slaves? (I think I kind of flubbed this one because I said 'African-Americans', rather than just 'people from Africa' which I think was the correct answer to this weirdly phrased question IMO)

What is the highest court in the land?

Question about what territory US bought from France (Louisiana purchase)

What body makes federal laws?

How many amendments are there to Constitution?

Who is the Vice-President?

Why did the colonists rebel against the British?

I think that was it. Then the reading/writing test, which was very simple especially given that English is my native language.

Then we went through some basic parts of the N400 form (not all of it, for example I wasn't asked about previous addresses or work history). She verified my name, address etc, checked that I was still employed at same place as when I filed, and then we went over my travel since I've been a green card holder (I travel a lot for work) and added in the couple of places I've been since filing. Then we went through all the yes/no questions re. genocide, communist party, militias, willing to serve the country etc.

Whole thing took maybe 20 minutes? She said she was recommending me for citizenship and could I come back later that day to do the oath? YES!

Oath ceremony was good, people from 17 countries there and the USCIS official running the show was excellent - clearly loves this part of his job.

Registered to vote straight afterwards.

Feel very lucky and relieved to have this over.

Really? That’s so weird. What does it say when you check status? I know most people in January ( CT ) got their interviews. I was sent to Albany though.. maybe Hartford is backed up?

Happy to see many of you as USCs. Congrats.

Anybody filing for parents, join us. I created a May group because that is when I filed for my mom, but it got rejected so my PD became June 5.

I am following people who filed in December, and they are getting approved, their I-130. So roughly 6 months for the I-130, then there is the NVC.

Anyway, congrats!

N-400

April 25, 2018 - Interview in Jacksonville, FL

May 24, 2018 - Oath Ceremony

I-130 for Mom

May 24, 2018 - Mailed I-130 for mom via UPS One-Day shipping

Hi @Converts, just saw you’re Sacramento, could you post about your interview experience once you’ve had it? I’m a June filer but Sacramento’s my local office as well.

I became a US citizen today! I'm not sure if maybe the format of the table got a bit messed up above so I wasn't sure which one to update with this info...?

goodwinandkate...|09\16\14|01\03|01\03|01\03\18|01\22\18|--\--\--|05\10\18|06\13\18|06\27\18|Baltimore, MD....|IOE

Ceremony was great. Arrived at 11.45am for 12.30pm ceremony.

Family and friends went through to be seated, then we all lined up 10 at a time to go through to the room, hand over green cards and be seated.

Ceremony started around 1.30pm (there was a delay because a few folks had issues such as having lost Green Cards since the interview [the guy in question was still naturalised, so if this is a worry for you, take heart!])

The first USCIS representative got up, warmed up the crowd with some "USA" chants and went over the contents of our packets ("your voter registration form is the most important thing here! It is your right AND responsibility to vote!")

The judge then rose, we sang the national anthem and then she said a few words. We watched a video about America being a "land of immigrants." The judge said a few more things about what an important occasion it was etc. We each stood as our nationality was called and then said the oath together. We pledged allegiance to the flag. We watched T's welcome video...and this Lee Greenwood "God Bless the USA" video complete with shots of America and cowboys riding into the sunset etc (and the lyrics, so you could sing along if you wanted...!)

Then finally we lined up and were called forward to receive our naturalisation certificates...and it was all over.

Surreal to be at the end of this journey. I sincerely hope the rest of you reach this point very soon.
