Hello all,

UPDATE: So I have received an RFE for my dad for late birth registration.

My mom's application got approved on 7/19/2018, however my dad got an RFE on 7/23/2018 saying the birth certificate that I submitted was registered 27 years after the event happened. I was born in January  1983 in India and my birth was registered 3 days after my birth on 2/2/1983. The birth certificate that i provided with I130 application clearly states registration date on it as 2/2/1983, but the issue date when we got it from municipal council in city where i was born was 7/29/2010, which clearly states as "date of issue" on my birth certificate. I think they got confused with "registration date" and "issue date" and sent me an RFE. Note that my mom's case got approved with same birth certificate.

Now, the RFE is to provide additional documents to proof the relationship with my dad. The documents they are asking needs to be oldest as possible

I have the following secondary documents stating my dad's name as my father

School certificate stating i attended school from 1987 to 2001 (oldest available document)

School mark sheet (2001)

Old passport (2006)

college mark sheet (2002)

Please advise on how should i proceed. I am planning to resend my birth certificate with these secondary documents and a cover letter explaining  them the misunderstanding that they might have. Do I still need an affidavit with all these documents or can i submit my birth certificate, and secondary school documents?

Thanks for reading, hope someone can advise!

No idea about Jamaica but i don't think they do the background check unless your case seems not genuine to them.

I think you should go secure a court affidavit (with seal) in addition to the other documents you want to send. More evidence is always better and court affidavits are actually good evidence in my opinion. To even go further you can also get 3 or 4 sworn affidavits from people (family and close friends) who can affirm a bona fide relationship. Include some old family photos with you want.

My I-130 is at the Texas service center. They received my package on February 26, I sent it on February 20th, that’s also my PD. I was hoping for an approval very soon. I saw on another forum someone with a PD date of February 17th got approved on August 1 so that gives me hope. Guess I’ll have to wait and see.

Hello all,

We are one month out from I-130 approval and still waiting for NVC to assign us a case number. I'm calling about twice a week but nothing yet.

Also, for all other Chinese-American families or anyone who uses WeChat, we have started a WeChat group and would like to add more people. We  have started a group and would like to add more people, if not to share immigration info then just to talk to couples in similar situations. If one of the members of your family is from China or even east Asia you guys already know that we face very peculiar social and cultural barriers. Message me and I will add you, all are welcome.
