The Rant of Our Discontent

Just finished up doing my twice a year laminating of new well received recipes to enter the almighty recipe binder.  I had the laminator out to do someone's new journeyman card since he can't seem to do it himself.

 

Had a nice birthday evening with the family.  

 

Work has started on my mother's new house with painting and the carpenter beginning the bathroom.  The Dane has to put in the shower base and pull new plumbing over there tomorrow.  The previous owner did the plumbing himself, which was ummm....interesting.    

 

This is a before shot of the bathroom that was taken a few months ago.  It is the super tiny second bathroom that we've had to find some odd sized things for.  The shower base size is one usually only used in trailer homes, for example.

I've had a nastygram, lol, by way of an email from a friend of the MIL.   One of her charming church ladies.

 

She's mad at me because I wasn't watching the MIL well enough, and she fell and broke her hip. Again. The same hip even. Apparently, I am meant to be watching her all the way from AR  to VA.  I am a very uncaring, unfeeling and not very suitable caregiver she says, and if I had any sense at all I ought to be ashamed of myself.

 

Story is, actually, that her daughter is here in AR finishing up sorting her Mother's life out. She's annoyed that she has to be here to do that, because her mother didn't do a thing by way of packing and sorting. The sister in law's Husband was out of town, so the MIL has been staying at their house in VA, to look after their dog. That they left her alone is problem enough, because everyone from the Doc on down has said she isn't to be on her own, but they also left her to look after their big dog. Anyone could have seen this one coming. 

 

She went out to look for the dog,  as she let it out and forgot all about it. The dog, as they do, went walkabout, and hours later, by her own admission, she headed out into 6 inches of snow to look for it, without her cane and not wearing a coat. The only reason anyone found her at all, was that the mailman had to come all the way up the drive to leave off a package. It's a very secluded and 'exclusive' property she has always said. She has no idea how long she laid there, but she was treated for hypothermia.

 

I'm going to wait until I'm not ready to rip this persons' head off before I reply. This is no longer my circus.

Good idea.  Sometimes best to not even reply at all to someone being inappropriate, in my experience.

Sort of a rant:  I was looking at photos a friend posted of their children in their house - their living room and kitchen are just overwhelmed with toys, plastic totes, and diaper boxes.  Seems like they have a case of the grandparents who buy grandkids way too many toys.  We have this problem too and often have to over-emphasize our lack of need for more things for the children.  I routinely purge our toy collection, but even just looking at friend's house makes me want to purge everything.  

 

I've discovered that our kids get much more enjoyment from a few carefully selected classic toys and of course the swings from the ceiling in the living room.  That'll amuse them all day.

We should have stopped after the first ES, only jackpot man.

The take, see man:

-- Many (2+1) Many-packs of Amoco "china foam" partitioned plates; more-than-half-full can of silicone lubricant spray; 

     office scissors; nearly full box Cascade warshdishing powder; Many (2+1) warshcloths that happen to have Mrs. T-B.'s 

     initials (!) = $Many ($2x2x2), steal man.

After ES-ing/GS-ing, we were doing other errands when Mrs. T-B. phoned us, quite aysheep about "where are you and why aren't you here to help me with the party, huh man?"-type issues, aysheep she man.

 

We (fortunately very near the casa) replied that there was no need to go aysheep and that we would be there soon, mollify she we man.

 

After moving furniture on command by She Who Must Be Obeyed Man, we lay down for an intended nap, exhausted we man.

Mrs. T-B. discovered this and went aysheep again, apparent pattern of same man.

We got up, performed one other demand, and then had time to kill, no longer enough for a nap man.

 

We retrieved the Amoco plates from the T-B.-mobile's trunk and placed them, unpackaged, on the hors d'oeuvres table, horsedivers man.

Mrs. T-B. went minor-aysheep and said, "We don't need those, no man!"

 

Fully half -- approx. Many (2x2x2x2-1) -- of those plates were appreciatively used by the guests, just right for the occasion man.

When we genially pointed this out, Mrs. T-B. grumbled about what ancient year they must have been from but otherwise shut up, justified we man.

(Those plates were probably from the year Many at least, concede we man.)

After the party, Mrs. T-B. was satisfied and didn't go aysheep about anything, calmer she man.

It helped that we cleared the throwaway items of our own volition, volitionary we man.

 

We then took nearly a 2-hour nap-with-cat while Mrs. T-B. & Mini-B. rested, we and miu zzz man.

We then went back out on errands, get 'em done man.

Mrs. T-B. helped Mini-B. investigate his new toys, indeed a haul man.

When we returned, we were nearly bowled over by a remote-controlled Lightning McQueen, look out man.

Mini-B. then gleefully and skillfully directed it at the cat, chase miu man.

 

With possible exception of cat, we all agree that this was a great party, agree we-except-possibly-miu man.

A minor residual issue is the amount of leftover ice cream, overpurchased man.

Blue Bell Dutch chocolate, Blue Bell no-sugar vanilla, Turkey Hill pistachio+almond man.

We partially ameliorated the oversupply of the first of these later in the evening, ingest we man.

    A Many-year-old husband and wife were having problems remembering things, so they decided to go to their doctor to get checked out to make sure that nothing was wrong with them.
    When they arrived at the doctor's, they told him about the problems that they were having with their memory.  After checking the couple out, the doctor told them that they were physically OK but might want to start writing things down and making notes to help them remember things.
    The couple thanked the doctor and left.  Later that night, while watching TV, the man got up from his chair, and his wife asked, "Where are you going?"
    He replied, "To the kitchen."

    He replied, "Sure."
    She then asked him, "Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?"
    He said, "No; I can remember that."
    She then said, "Well, I also would like some strawberries on top.  You had better write that down, because I know you'll forget that."
    He said, "I can remember that -- you want a bowl of ice cream with strawberries."
    She replied, "Well, I also would like whipped cream on top.  I know you'll forget that, so you'd better write it down."
    With irritation in his voice, he said, "I don`t need to write that down!  I can remember that."  He then fumed into the kitchen.
    After about Many (2x2x2x2+2+2) minutes, he returned from the kitchen and handed her a plate of bacon and eggs.  She stared at the plate for a moment and said angrily, "I TOLD you to write it down!  You forgot my toast!"
