Anyone in favor of a book club let me know, I'm totally down for that.

thinking of reading an immigration-related book after the 3 I'm reading, like behold the dreamers or something like that. seems appropriate.

I just finished future sex, a writer discovering the alternative routes of sex (poly, open, etc) and women's roles in society and pleasure. Very well written.

First gym day: Can I just be skinny and toned already? sigh.  My goal is to lose 30-40 pounds, ultimately just to feel better honestly.

My allergies are down after I stopped having processed foods and flour/bread etc, I also eat very little dairy now.

I keep fighting with my mom (or at least having disagreements) we are SO radically different and I just realized how her laziness and lack of structure

has influenced my life so much. But I'm an adult and responsible for my own lifestyle choices, even though I've been overweight my whole life, so has she, and my dad.

I can't keep blaming them for it, and I'm trying to help them eat properly and exercise instead. The inversion of power isn't sitting well with her, she has such a strong and stubborn personality.

My grandma is worse, but at least a bit more open and I can discuss things better with her. She understands that I'm pushing them to help them become better.

Hah! I've read Future Sex. As a perv I was probably attracted to the title but it's not really titillating. It did have some good stuff that I didn't know much about on polyamorous relationships, and her chapter on Burning Man was very good. I might be open to a book club. Never been part of one though I've thought about joining one at times.

Good luck on the weight loss. I lost 30 pounds, permanently, 2.5 years ago when my wife joined me in the US. My approach was pretty simple:

1. Eat at home with few processed foods, as much as possible

2. Instead of being a random runner where I ran anywhere from zero to 3 times a month (usually about 4 miles each), I started being religious about going out once every weekend. This means a 6 to 7 mile run, only once a week. I never miss. If I'm traveling out of town for the weekend, my shoes and running shorts go in the bag. It's the only real exercise I get, but it is good cardio.

3. Limit sugar when possible. Absolutely no soda. I'll eat the occasional dessert or sweet thing that someone brings into the office but I don't make a habit of it. There isn't any other regimen in my diet. I eat dairy, I eat carbs, I eat at restaurants, I have a defined snack during the day of 2 ounces of nuts. I drink a lot of water. I do shoot for medium sized portions. No all you can eat buffets anymore. Also, if the portion is large, I'm taking some of it home in a box.

Granted, my metabolism probably helped me a lot. But I was at 220 pounds for probably 20 years and I feel a lot better today at 188. I do think if you construct your married life correctly, then that can help. It's so much easier cooking for two rather than getting easy takeout food or some other processed food from the grocery store. Exercise is also easier as a couple as you keep each other honest. She's not a runner but she goes to the gym a couple of times a week. She sometimes gives me the side eye if it's Sunday afternoon and I haven't went for my run yet. lol

We had freezing rain before it snowed yesterday.  So after the gym Im sliding downhill away from the truck while trying to scrape a hole big enough so I can see. And the dog biffed it coming out of the house.  Both of which were humorous and omg moments.

Dogs are hilarious when they biff it. Our little Shi tsu Pomeranian mix loves the snow and ice (hates the water by the way). We haven't really had snow in Santa Fe this year but we went up to Northern New Mexico for yesterday's holiday. He found some snow and ice and was in heaven. But watching him try to maintain traction on the ice was funny.

I think one of the downsides to a woman is the opposite of this - we tend to eat more and more often when we are married.  When it is just myself, maybe I have some fruit or a small salad for dinner, but cooking a meal and I tend to eat more than I would otherwise.  It is my husband who gets the healthier option.  LOL!

I don't usually say anything bad about winter, but I'm just kind of done with the sub-zero temperatures this year.  It is supposed to warm up again, but the furnace is struggling to keep up.  House is set for 73 and what is the temp?  67 at the thermostat.  Once we are above zero, it'll catch back up.  For now, though, I have a chill that I can't shake.

I'm more down for a weight loss club at this point.  I've got a few weeks yet before I need to focus on that, but I'm determined to not eat chocolate like it is my primary food group when nursing this time.

Gym time is always hard for me.  I'll be back to my usual going to the gym sometime between 10pm-1am.  Even going for walks isn't going to be an option until May. :(  We were supposed to have our new rec center done this year with an indoor walking track around the hockey rink, but.... nope.

I'm just starting myself but that does sound great!

chocolate is so hard to leave. I love it myself.

gym time is difficult, I'm so lazy. but right now I'm not working (or very little) and I have no kids. It is the perfect time to lose some weight!

wish we lived in the same city, I could definitely use a gym or exercise partner :)

it's definitely not an erotica/sexy book, but one that talks about sex.  I found the writing a bit complex and learned a few words here and there, which is great.

I loved that chapter as well.

thank you so much and congratulations on the 30 pounds! and thank you for the tips.

I'm not a runner, but I've been reading about interval training and it seems to be good. I'm also joining a pole class to do something fun and challenging.

I'm already cooking, no processed meals and definitely no sugar. I'm pretty much following what you recommended, which makes me happy and excited about the results!

My metabolism isn't as fast as I would hope for, but it's not an excuse. I know I can lose weight since I've done so before, and eating better will help my hormones and overall health.

I'm considering a health check-up just to make sure everything is right,  and my pap smear.

My husband is a runner, but I'm implementing a more active lifestyle once we are together in Austin, more outdoor activities and anything else that burns the calories :P

Yeah, that's probably going to help you in the long run (excuse the pun). I've had two long term relationships (both approximately 3 years in length). In both situations, my being a runner seemed to motivate my partners, neither of whom were/are runners. I've never said a thing to either one of them about exercise. I guess actions speak louder than words.

We didn't get any at all. Not a flake. I'd like to have seen a little, other than this miserable cold. I'm going about draped in a fleece blanket, which is awkward, but endlessly entertaining for the husband and the dog.

They threatened snow today so the schools closed early, still no snow but I'm willing to bet there's at least a 2hr delay in the morning

Books - love reading, will read just about anything fiction.

MIL - she is crawling round redneck, has developed a sudden interest in having a cc permit and a pistol and even claims she likes gun shows unlucky for her he's not silly enough to fall for her tricks 😁

Oh dear. Mine has a CC permit and was convinced the hospital had given her permission to carry while volunteering.  They hadn't, in fact, she was told that in a meeting with all of the other volunteers. The following week she was actually showing it to people, telling them not to worry she was armed and was quite happy to shoot any bad guys that came into the lobby. The other volunteers freaked and made a complaint to the head, and I had a call from the administrator while she was away for a couple of weeks. I was told she could either not bring her pistol out there, and if she did again she would be canned. I had a conversation with the Ministers wife as well that week, saying the MIL had shown it to her in church. Good night nurse. So while she was away, I took it out of her bedside table, and locked it in our safe, and convinced her she'd misplaced it. I still have it.

Good for him, not falling for her nonsense. The last thing she needs is to be armed. Probably the last thing any of you need.

The thought of her being able to walk around with a loaded pistol in her purse brings me out in a cold sweat, I'm keeping everything crossed that if she goes through with her application the sheriff will say no!

It's scary for sure. Mine got around that little thing, she needed to just renew it, but it was 10 years expired. She should have had to take the class again, but she sweet talked the local Sherrif, who is in her church group, and he just rubber stamped it. Quite pleased with herself about that. All I could do in the end was disarm her, in the only way I could work out how.

It reminded me of an old Golden Girls episode. Rose, for some reason, possibly neighborhood burglaries, had got herself a pistol. Blanche came in late with one of her dates, and Rose hearing a noise at the door fired in the general direction and hit an expensive vase. Sophia, bless her, said "Some night I'm gonna pass gas, and Stable Mabel there is going to blow my head off'. Indeed. :D

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.
