We haven't had a year like this yet since we moved here, but the April the year I bought the house was like this.  I think they got a snowstorm that dumped a foot or more late into the month.

When I lived in northern New Hampshire, I remember it snowing in May, while we were backpacking/camping under tarps (we didn't get tents).

Winter camping, I did that a couple of times as a kid, but we did have tents.

We used to get snow in May at home in Ontario, and I know on PEI that wasn't unusual. Really short growing season on the Island. I really missed not having four actual seasons while overseas. Other than a green one (winter), and a brown(summer) one that is.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I had a 4 season tent at the time but wasn't allowed to bring it.  Lame-o.

I haven't been camping since I got lyme, maybe it is time to declutter the tents and camping stuff.  I used to love it, but I have so much fear now.

That's a pity, you would have been more comfortable in a tent than under a tarp!

I used to love camping. Now that I am retired, and would have the time, it's out of the question. The Husband has a heap of meds, and some of them have to be kept from getting too hot, or too cold. He has an O2 concentrator which might be a bit on the awkward side.

I guess it is about a year and a half ago that we drove from Arkansas to BC in Canada, and we did mull over the idea of camping along the way. In the end, we decided it might be more bother than we were prepared to deal with. So we wimped out.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Poor Oscar, hoping for the best.

It's cold here, I was going to plant the veggie garden today but forget that noise!

It's also hatch day, I have not seen or heard a thing but the mommies are keeping a good seal on those eggs. I'm annoyed the cold came back just as the hatching was about to start.

Alabama's birthday is May 19 was a great long weekend in Canada but sucked for kids parties because camping trips where the start then. SHe has had many parties with snow on the ground. I remember one year we went camping on Canada Day and it dropped below freezing. Not fun when on lake superior in a tent.

I've just come in with the dog. That wind had a real bite to it.  They have put up a freeze warning map that shows the whole of the state.  Enough!

Will they hatch whatever the weather? I don't know the first thing about chickens, I'll admit.

Yes I have had enough of the cold. I would have staid in Canada if I wanted to be cold in April.

Yes they will hatch in all weather. Today is day 21 so hatching should have begun if the mommies have been able to keep them at the right temps. I went out a few times and they are keeping them guarded so Until I see mom boot out empty eggs or see a chick pocking out I will never know.

I hope they stay tucked up under Mum where it's warm and cozy. Miserable weather to greet the world in! Can they do that though? Not hatch?

Not hatching will mean something is wrong. Either not developed or some other of the many things that can be wrong. Today is the day to be starting but hatching is a long process. They break a tiny hole for air then they start to make their way around the shell to split it open. This is my first time doing this or letting them do it :) so I'm far from an expert. I've got links galore to help me and the chicks. I hope they don't need my help.

I can see why incubators are fun because you can see all the action happening. With letting the broodies do all the work you just have to sit and wait.

I did some searching to see if I needed to bring them in the house with the moms because how cold it was. Most of what I found is let them be.

Nerve-wracking stuff then.  I'd have worn a path in the floor between my house and theirs, checking on progress.

I used to hate seeing in the spring in NZ, all the little lambs being born into the snow, and not surviving the cold. They do bring those inside if they are found. I was visiting a friend in the Kaimanawa Ranges one year, and she had 7 in the kitchen, all being bottle fed. What a ruckus!

The MIL is trying it on. Out of the clear blue sky, I've had an email from my Husband's Brother in law. The MIL is blocked nine ways to Sunday, so she can't get hold of us in any way. So how this person magically conjured up my email address out of thin air? She must have given it to him.

I've only seen this guy 3 times in 9 years, and could about pass him on the street and not know him. What on earth?  Why now?  He has a long history of doing this sort of thing. Every time the MIL has had a fight with her daughter, she gets him to make the SIL apologize to her. Even if she's right.  He's a pushover. So I know who is behind this.

He wants to provide us with updates on how she is doing if I am interested. As it happens, I am not. Not interested that she wants to go back home, or that she fell and broke her hip again, and cannot drive, or get about. I don't feel in the least bit guilty that they are having to drive her around, and put up with her needy nonsense. I don't want to be in contact with any of them. Ever.

Blocked him.  Not sorry about that, either.

Good for you. You don't need to be dragged back into that mess.

Oh the path is well worn. The older girl goes out often to check too,  between the two of us the grass may never grow back.

Oh yes I've seen the lambs and goats being brought into the house too.

There used to be a group in NZ that knit little sweaters for the lambs. Cute as. I always wondered why they didn't time things better, the ones who bred them. I suppose it's all about the money. Spring lamb goes for one heck of a price there, if you can get any at all.

That is cute. I bet it has more to do with when the mating season hits them.

I hear cheap cheaps under the mums  Not sure how many but it sounds like more then one.
