age difference probably....  Yes I was there in March then I went back in November

They likely wouldn't reject it strictly because of age difference.  It could be that he didn't give "good"  answers during the interview which then led the CO to believe this is not a bona fide relationship.  Anyway, as @geowrian stated, you can refile )which could be risky if you don't know exactly what they didn't like) or you can marry outside the US, and file a CR-1.  Current wait from filing to visa in hand is about 12-14 months.

How old are the both of you?

Ask him/her which questioned they asked and what the answer was.

What is he a citizen of? How is he residing in italy and what are the age differences.

I assume you are the older female and he is a young 20 year old male

I don't know if Gambia is a high fraud visa country...

There might be a red flag if you are way older than him like 20+ years.

In FY 2016, Gambia had a 69.9% refusal rate for B visas.

Ok first of all, you need to change the title of this thread because it’s misleading. Your K1 Visa did not expire. Your 129f petition to file for a K1 Visa has expired. No they are not the same things.

Second, if your petition was returned to USCIS, they saw something they didn’t like. When that happens, there is nothing you can do but painfully wait for USCIS to let your petition expire before even giving you an answer. That’s just what they do. It’s not a special case or anything. They do that.

my thoughts to you based on what other people on this website have been through is forget the K1, and start making arrangements for a CR1 Visa. Go get married somewhere and start spousal visa. If you got a denied K1 Visa, don’t risk getting another one. Just get married and prove to USCIS that you are in a bonafide relationship.

It would really be nice if the OP could ascertain the reasons behind the consulates action.  Right now its all conjecture and the case might be more complicated than what we all understand it to be and therefore making recommendations that are not right for the situation

YMMV

Personally,  I would suggest forgoing the K1 at this point, travel to his country and get married, and prepare to file the CR-1...it's a longer wait, yes, but a good route for you to take now perhaps.  Sorry this happened to you!
