I don't know how it works in New Mexico but in MN you can change your names upon marriage on the marriage certificate.  If New Mexico does not have this option, then you need to do a legal name change via the court system

It is the applicants responsibility to make there wishes known

 

Many states (New Mexico appears to be one) only allow a change of last name via marriage.  Minnesota is one that allows you to change any of your names.  

 

As such, now you need to change it via the court system.  Google name change in New Mexico or whichever state you will reside
