Hello

I'm a British man with an asian girlfriend and I'd like to get her a tourist visa to the US. We have previously traveled a lot together but never to the US (but including UK, Canada, France, Netherlands, Dubai) so visa applications are nothing new. However filling in this US application I feel that due to certain current circumstances, my girlfriend's case doesn't look very strong. Can I run a few points past you guys for input? I'd really appreciate any feedback to any points.

1) My GF is currently unemployed. This looks terrible when applying for a visa! But she left her last job some months ago and has been taking some time out. She spent 6 weeks in the UK on vacation and since then has been working on an apartment renovation (an investment property she recently bought). She has almost finished the renovation and has a new job lined up for the end of January. We want to get our US vacation in before she starts her new job as once she starts the job it is going to be tricky to get any decent time off for a while. Anyhow I can't help thinking this all looks very dodgy.

2) The website requires 5 years of work history but only allows you to list 2 jobs. In our case this is a paradox.

3) Are you traveling with anyone to the US? Well no she will be traveling to the US alone. However she will meet up with me there in the US and we'll stay together. So does that mean she is traveling alone or with me?

4) I'm planning to surprise her with a very quick engagement and marriage while we are in the US. People from different countries getting married can be a paperwork nightmare but not so in Las Vegas, so this is the major factor in why I want to take this Vacation there.

On the plus side, my GF has a decent travel history with previous visas to places (not sure if the US considers these at all), has plenty of cash in the bank and a various properties that she owns. But will this be enough to offset this otherwise dodgy looking visa application. To me on paper it looks bad. A single, attractive, unemployed Asian woman going to Las Vegas by herself. If I was the person deciding the application I'd probably be thinking "hooker".

She has to apply for her own visa and she needs to proof that she has strong ties to her home country.

All she can do is apply and see.

Make sure that if she got the visa approved that she has to go back to her home country where she has to wait for the spouse visa.

She's not allowed to stay in the US.

OP is a Brit so immigration to the US is not on the table

YMMV

Tourist visa for a single, unemployed Asian female travelling alone would be a challenge on any given day.. but her travel history may work for her. Which country's passport does she hold?

All she can do is apply, as you two are familiar with the visa processes.

I think the investment properties and savings are a plus, as is the prior travel history.

Travel history alone wasn’t enough in cases I’ve seen from Cambodia, a high risk country.

In addition to what the other posters have suggested, I presume she has a copy of the employment contract for her new job stating starting date, position, salary etc. She can bring that to the interview as proof of her intent to return. Proof of property ownership will also help.

I would rethink the answer to travelling alone to the us.  In reality she is flying in alone but not traveling alone in the us because she will be travelling with you.

This is what I was thinking too. She isn't really alone and stating her UK boyfriend will be going with her may help a tiny bit.

She has money and properties so not quite the usual situation we see here.

I think the UK citizen boyfriend will help her as well as her travel history.

Her investments and money in the bank oculd work well too.

Just have her be polite and confident a return ticket and everything to-do during the trip..ie show the plans already and booked hotels.

Can you show that she started the immigration process to the UK? I'm guessing that would help too. I think her case is better then average. When is her interview?

Never book anything until visa is in hand.
