Medical/Interview at same time?

All,

I know I've seen some very old posts on this but want to make sure I'm not too far off.

My wife and stepkids have to travel 4 hours to London to do these appointments (We are currently mid-NVC process but pre-planning).  How bad does it mess things up to do the medical and the visa interview the next day?

Only asking because travel for 4 people to London is easily 400 a trip just for the bus.  If they go by plane/train it doesn't get much better.   We easily cut 40% off the cost by getting a hotel and doing them in succession.  Any risk to this other than getting a "Approved pending medical?"   Also, how quick would we know the full approval so that we could schedule flights out of the country?

Thanks!

Wow!  Can they finish the medical report that quickly?  In Taiwan, they require 2 full weeks, but I'm not familiar with the process in London......Good luck to you and your family.

I know in the Philippines you have to have space between the 2, but London could be different.

As for how long, do not get too far ahead! Sometimes administrative processing can take time. Wait until you have the visa in hand to purchase your tickets.

The medical at Kingsbridge can be done at any time but you will need more than a single day for the results.

They may hold off on final processing if any tests are pending.  It may vary from country to country, but in our case the medical exam spanned two days.  One to establish the paperwork and get the lab draws and a second to do the actual exam with the lab results.  It will depend on the doctor.

Understood on this.  Moreso concerned with whether we are really screwing ourselves timewise by doing them back to back v. separating them.

The London embassy recommends 5 business days between medical and interview. It is what it is. If you don't leave that amount of time between the two the medical won't be ready and thry can't approve the visa.

Timeline in brief:

Married: September 27, 2014

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

As JFH said, they recommend 5 business days to allow the results to be received by the embassy.

Where is your wife travelling from? I am taking the National Express coach from South Wales which is also around 4 hours away (there are multiple stations all around the same price) and tickets are around £5-10 each way. If she can be flexible with the time her and the kids travel then she could get a pretty good deal.

The 5 days is actually cutting things fine because it's working days. I had six days between medical and interview. Any hiccups like finding any issues (abnormal test results, spots on x-ray) and you'd have to hurriedly reschedule your interview.

Wha about doing your Medical 2-3 weeks before your interview date is? Is that allowed or does it have to be around 5 days apart? Because i can schedule my Medical any time now (Case is in transit) but i'm not sure if it's ok to do it way ahead of the interview date as all i've read is people saying a week's gap from Medical to Interview.

That's fine! They want you to have minimum 5 business days in between to allow time for the results to get there, 2 - 3 weeks will be fine.

I ended up doing something similar. Because of the sheer number of interviews I needed to book same day, I have mine 5 weeks apart.
