Hello House,

This goes to filers going for their AOS interview this month and next month, please kindly hint/outline the list of supporting documents y'all going with.

My marriage is slightly over 5 months, just got added to my spouse's bank accounts cuz I just got my ead and SSN, my name has been on the electricity bill since we got married, talking to the apartment office folks to add me to my spouse's lease agreement, we plan on amending the tax filing cuz she filed for tax only due to me not having any docs by that time. Also, we didn't have any wedding ceremony cuz we needed the money for AOS fees.

So with all these being said, what do y'all advice as regards supporting documents we need to get?

These are the evidences I'm bringing with me:

1. Apartment leases from 2016 listing the both of us as renters

2. A joint checking account statement

3. A photo album of about ~100 photos of us with our family and friends dating back to 2013.

4. A Southwest Airlines Companion Pass web printout listing my spouse as the Companion

I'm hoping these are enough since I really don't have anything else.

We were advised to comingle all of our assets and liabilities. Kean and I opened new checking and savings and money market accounts. He purchased a car and added my name. I put his name on the RV we own. Both of our names are on all insurance accounts. I even changed the deed to the funeral plots, now we have side by side plots with both of our names on them. We are each other's emergency contacts for all things. We filed Married Filing Jointly on our taxes for last year. Anything you own and anything you owe should have each person's name on it.

I accidentally started posting on this form not realizing it was K1 visa adjustment of status, so I have been married for five years right now and I'm adjusting from a different visa. However, five years ago I did this whole process in Canada with my husband (I am Canadian) right after we were married (like two months after)  We did not have a joint back account or very much evidence at the time. I know USCIS is different. However, the Canadian PR process (like the US Green Card) is really strict too. These are the documents that we used  for Canada:

  • If you use your wife's credit card or anything like that, you could bring that information in (like credit card statements showing things you have purchased).
  • My husband got me a courtesy credit card that is on his account. He did this before we were even married. They can put any name on a courtesy card and don't need a social.
  • You could also include correspondence that shows your relationship built up to the wedding, and they day to day correspondence afterwards. We printed out our FaceBook messages.
  • Evidence of sharing money, i.e. her removing money from her bank account and you putting it into your bank account.
  • Any mail addressed to you that comes to your shared address.
  • Pictures of your home.
  • Sworn statements from family and friends who can attest to the validity of your relationship and have seen you in your home.
  • Health insurance or life insurance (if any)
  • Pictures of you together. We used a lot of pictures.
  • Pictures from the day of your marriage (we also did not have a ceremony or a wedding, but we had some pictures that a friend took)

I’m so scared to take wedding cards. I am very sentimental and would be really upset if they took them.

I thought about that but it just seems like it wouldn’t be very good evidence. We didn’t keep any envelopes from cards that were sent in the mail and the ones we received on the day just have our names on the envelope so the cards/envelopes could just be written at any time by anyone. Doesn’t seem like they would be very good “evidence”.

I’m not too worried about the evidence we do have though as we have very much merged our lives with banks, cars, insurance etc. Although we do not have anything to do with our living situation, we are living at his parents’ house which is in their names, not ours, including utilities. We could show evidence of rent payments to them I suppose.

I have a question about interview... We do not have picture with families basically at all because my spouse does not have very good relationship with her parents and they are not aware of this marriage. My parents live overseas and could not visit. Is this a red flag?

What we have:

1) Mutual lease (signed 8 months ago)

2) Mutual Health insurance

3) Plenty of credit cards being authorized users of each other

4) Pictures from wedding with friends. Pictures from trips/vacations.

5) Mutual checking account

6) Sworn affidavits from friends

7) Utility and phone bills with our names on them

8) We have worked at the same place twice in the past (we have proof. This was also listed in I-130)

9) Joint Taxes from 2017

I am sure we some some other things as well, but just wanted to ask if this is enough given the parent situation. We are planning to tell the truth about parents if asked.

Your insight would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you!

I think you should be fine. Pics with family are good but what you have evidence seem to be solid to me so I wouldn’t worry that much . Jus breathe easy and finesse that interview :)

That is not a red flag. You have more than enough proof (my opinion) and honestly I dont think the US agent would ask about the relationship between you guys and your parents. You will be fine.
