Dear VJ Users --

I received my Green Card in the mail today!!! My husband and I are both very happy and still in disbelieve that this is all happened in the last few days of 2017. My conditional green card was approved 15 days following the interview. So for those who did not receive any final decision on the day of the interview, know that if your files are all complete and align and that your interview went well, I believe the Greed Card will be on your way sooner than what you expect it would be.

So now I have a question:

1). With this green card, I am assuming that my EAD(and AP) are no longer valid, am I correct? So I won't have to re-new / re-apply for another EAD in a year, correct?

2). My SSN card has the, "Only valid for employment with EAD" thing statement. My conditional Green Card basically cancel this statement, yes? As I am now legally able to live and accept employment without considering my EAD.

3). Do I need to go to Social Security Office and obtain a new card (one that won't say the 'Employment' thing) or I won't be required to do that until I am a citizen?

4). My Green Card will be expired on December 2019. How soon should I begin to submit an application to remove my condition?

5). Am I able to proceed with Naturalization at the end period of my conditional GC or I will only be able to proceed with that AFTER living for 5 years in the US? Note: I came in with K-1 Visa)

I'm so happy now that I can't even think what other question I should ask... Anything that I should pay attention???

THANK YOU.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!

1)  Correct, Correct

2) Your GC is now your authorization for work.

3)  Yes you can now request a new card

4) 90 days prior to your expiration date is when the window opens for the ROC application

5) You can proceed to naturalization when you are eligible.  If based on a continuing marriage to your current USC spouse then it is when you have been a resident for three years, otherwise it is when you have been a resident for 5 years

YMMV

Congratulations that was so quick! I hope everyone's is quick like yours :)

Question for you? Is your timeline correct with Chicago as the city you had your biometrics and interview  etc in ?

Or is that just where you sent your application like instructed. I am wondering because I live in Chicago and am curious how long the process will take but alot of people put the mailing address down which messes up the visa journey timelines

Thank you for your response. One more Questions:

1. How do I go about requesting a new SSN card? Any link?

THANK YOU.

Marzena & Stephen --

Thank you. It was indeed a "breeze" for us however it wasn't an easy stress-free process. We're happy that it's done and I don't have to worry about this GC until at least 1.5 years. YAY!

Chicago was only the office we sent our AOS / EAD / AP documents. My biometric was in Los Angeles (somewhere in Siera Madre, I think... I can't remember...)

We mailed the AOS on August 9. Biometric in September in LA (I think..), interview on 11 Dec in LA, approval on 26, GC in hand on 30 Dec.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

If I am not mistaken since you need to show then the GC it must be done in person and not online.

SSA.gov is the website

I don't believe you're ever required to get a new SS card, even after becoming a citizen. People just do it so they have a card that no longer has that message. Totally optional though. I suppose the one upside to a new card after becoming a citizen is your "work authorization" can just be the SS card and your state ID.

Anyway, congrats on getting your GC!
