Hello, Everyone!

This Christmas my wife surprised me with a cruise to Mexico from New Orleans, LA and now I’m worried about going without my green card. I do have my EAD / AP card but I’m not sure if that’s enough for me to enter Mexico on a cruise especially since my US visa is expired and the only proof of my legal status is the AP card. Do anyone have any experience and can help me with my question? I just don’t want to be denied boarding or have an issue going back! Btw I’m a Russian citizen who entered the United States on a K1 visa!

thank you :)

That is literally what AP is for.

I know, but my question is if I need to obtain the visa to Mexico. As a Russian citizen I’m required to get one to enter the country unless I have a US visa which I don’t, all I have is my AP. So i’m not sure if AP is treated the same way as the visa would.

You simply get a Mexican visa put in your Russian passport.

  • Traveling by cruise. Foreigners of any country traveling to Mexico by cruise on leisure trips visiting Mexican maritime ports, are NOT required to obtain a visa or consular stamp. The passenger must carry its valid passport.

US Residents: If your United States visa stamped on your passport already expired but you have an official document proving your legal status in USA, you must apply for a Mexican visa (I-797 A Forms, Advance Parole Forms, I-20 OR DS-2019 Forms won’t be accepted to entering Mexico), unless you have a valid Visa for any of the countries listed above (Canada, Japan, United Kingdom or Schengen area).

YMMV

Exactly, blows my mind every time I read this

Why?

The AP states that entry into the US is not guaranteed, so yeah off course people get worried and ask this kind of questions.

OP, I traveled with AP last summer. During my vacation the greencard arrived, so I was a little bit worried. When we came back we had to go into secondary. They had to check the AP and it probably took an hour. They were very friendly and apologetic, so I knew it was a formality.

Enjoy your trip.
