All,

My mother in law would like to come visit for about a month. She would be coming around the time my wife(her daughter) will be giving birth. She is 44, married with 3 kids in her home county being of ages 25, 15 & 12.

Do you guys think she has a good chance of obtaining a tourist visa? One could argue she has compelling social ties(husband and 3 kids in her home country). What is the best way for her to demonstrate this during her interview?

Not much to do at the interview apart from answer the questions asked truthfully. Most of the important infornation that is used to make the decision is on the DS-160 already.

A good job and previous travel history would help.

Let us know the outcome.

Is her daughter (your wife) currently in the US? Tourist visa application asks to disclose any close relatives in the US.

Fairly straightforward process. Ds160 and interview determine the rest.

I apologize if I didn't clarify. I have already submitted everything and my mother in law's interview is next month. I am just trying to get a feel for what we need in order to have a more successful outcome.

There is no fixed answer to the following common line of queries on VJ:

what we need in order to have a more successful outcome / how can I reduce chances of a rejection / how can I increase B2 visa chances

Fill out the ds160 purpose of visit.

Be straightforward, and relaxed, at the interview.

CO decides the rest.
