My fiancee and I are pretty much up to date as far as the paperwork needed for the interview goes. We have yet to submit the checklist, pending arrival of police and medical reports.

The question I have, especially if anyone has experienced something like this is that when you go for the interview, what if there is something missing or out of order or maybe they need additional information/documentation. What do they do in that case? Do they give you time to sort out the issue and come back for an interview another day?

I guess what I am asking is that in the case of filing the petition, they would issue an RFE - what is the equivalent during an interview? Or does no such thing exist?

Has anyone gone through this experience or have any knowledge about this?

Thanks in advance.

Depending on what's missing, I've seen people relay different results here on VJ. One option is that they approve conditional upon receiving X document. Or they could deny you too, I suppose. You should check out the Foreign Embassy forum for more information.

I think you can also send in your checklist before you get the police/medical. At least that's how it was for Canada.

If something is missing or does not satisy them the issue a blue slip called a 221-G. The heading on the blue slip is "Intent to Deny" They will list what they want to see for approval and if you do not submit it in satisfactory manner within 60 days then the denial becomes official and the file is returned to NVC where your only option now is an appeal. Appeals go very slow and are something you want to avoid.

Of course they can also just issue a denial and then you have only the option of appeal. Flat out denials are not common unless they perceive fraud.

Thanks! I appreciate you all giving me your input and advice. I dont foresee any such issues, but it is better to be prepared, I suppose. I guess my main concern is flat out denial based on something small, but I gather from what everyone has said, that may only be due to the presumption of a fraud, which is the least of my worries.

Thanks again everyone.
