Divorce CERTIFICATE or DECREE for K1 interview at Montreal; Also, originals or copies?

Attahed is a copy of the Packet 3 instructions for the Montreal embassy. You can see that it states that we must bring a CERTIFICATE for the divorce of both parties, if applicable.

 

I have two questions:

 

1) When they say CERTIFICATE, do they mean the certificate from the court that states the divorce has duly taken place, or the DECREE, which is the longer form with all the dispositions of property and child support, etc?

 

In my case, I have only an affidavit/order and a certificate, being that my divorce was very simple.

 

In my fiance's case, he only has the decree.

 

2) Do I need to have originals of both (sets of) documents, or will copies be okay at the interview? The packet instructions don't clearly state to bring originals but I'd like to make sure.

Does everyone get the same instructions for Packet 3? I was under the impression that while everyone has to get a medical exam, police reports are case specific. 

I'd say, for the interview, bring originals and copies, then make a second copy of everything and leave that at home (worse case scenario you loose your package or it gets stolen). It''s more work but it pays to be organised. If you bring copies of everything, you can leave them with whatever they might want/need; if you give originals, you can leave with a copy. I work in law....#1 rule-MAKE COPIES OF EVERYTHING!

It's on the packet information so I'd say it's for everyone:

 

-Police certificates from each country in which the applicant has resided for 6 months or longer since the age of 16.

Canadian police certificate(s) must be issued within one year of the visa appointment.
