I am curious about whether every body sent the entire copy of the federal and state tax return ( with all the schedules and supporting forms), or just the two-page 1040 and state tax form. Because if I send in the entire copy of federal and state tax return for past two years, our evidence probably would be more than 1 inch thick.

Thanks,

Cax&JL

Transcripts, man. I'm all about the transcripts.

If you send the return, you're "supposed to" send the entire return + schedules + attachments.

congrats zyggy

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

We did not use the actual return.. we used transcripts for our submission... About 3 pages front and back each...

I strongly encourage everyone to do the same.. they're compact and the price is right.. free...

Yeah Cassie.. that's it.. remember it's not the quantity of information that's important, it's the quality...

For the purpose of I-751 my wife sent only the Form 1040 itself. The prupose was to show that we filed a joint tax return, not to document what our income was.

Previously, the purpose of the affidavit of support we sent transcripts rather than photocopy the complete returns.

Federal only - state returns provide no additional value for either purpose.

Oh I hear you, I probably could have cut out some of what I included, but i tried not to include much 'fluff". I guess in hindsight I only need one or two examples of things as opposed to 3 or 4 in each category I had.

We went the minimalist route:

1. Copy of permanent resident card, front and back

2. Copy of daughter's birth certificate

3. Copy of son's birth certificate

4. Copy of warranty deed to house with both names on it

5. Copies of jointly filed federal income tax returns for past three years (last year's return was only a print out, however, because it was electronically filed return)

6. Copy of current joint statement for homeowner’s association fees

7. Copy of credit cards showing joint credit card account number

8. Copy of driver’s licenses showing joint address

We don't yet have a joint bank account. Also, getting a copy of the beneficiary sheet from my life insurance proved to be time consuming, and we ended up sending the petition in without it (although the beneficiary sheet eventually arrived).

I'm banking on our kids to pull us through. How can a marriage with "issue," as they say, be deemed to have been entered into to evade the immigration laws? (That's a rhetorical question, Yodrak.)

Meh

Thanks every body for your reply. But, what is "transcripts"? The confirmation of your tax return that you can request from IRS? Do I need to file some form to IRS to request it?

Thanks,

Cax&JL

go look on the IRS website and search for requesting transcripts. All we had to do is call a toll-free number and told them what years we needed and poof! in two weeks or so they were in our mailbox.
