I would say she is close but Hank Johnson wins the hold my beer I got this award, with his Guam may tip over comment.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

One part I don't quite get from the original article:

 

A United spokesperson told Fox News the screenshot didn't show the December flight as canceled because Simon ultimately took the flight. The airline provided the Chronicle with another screenshot of its internal software and said it showed the flight had been canceled on the mobile app, but that was not verified by the publication.

 

"Not verified by the publication" meaning what? How else would Fox verify an image sent by United of their internal software?

 

Having just dealt with a return flight home during the holidays where my flight was delayed several hours, I was looking at other flights to get my wife and I home. Depending on how she booked her ticket, she may have been able to get a refund on the return flight, and she could have been looking to fly earlier on another airline. Not saying that happened, but that seems to be United's story. 

 

So are we just saying United doctored a photo of their internal software? That would be extremely shady (but I guess not that far off for United).
