My point was paying that much for a phone that brings zero value over a cheaper phone is insane imho.  Keep in mind having said that I bought one last week.

Higher price paid - probably extend its life to 3yrs instead of 2yrs.

The iPhone will get updated versions of iOS for 3 years. The Samsung will be lucky to get the next version of Android. If you want the OS updates, you need to buy the Google phone as the software updates come from Google and is pure Android without a manufacturers interface.

Somebody seriously defriended you because of your make of cell phone ?

That was sarcasm :D

As far as I know no one unfriended me because of my cellphone..they must have other reasons.

But some people can be real snobs about what make their phone is.

Didn't you get them replaced under warranty? How did the replacements do?

We bought them during a vacation in Asia in a Apple store, we lost the receipt during that vacation. At that time we didn't know that we could go to the Apple store in our country.

On the other hand, the iPad we bought at same time survived everything. Our toddler threw it many times from the stairs, it fell on the floor, on the street. Glass never broke. After several years i gave it to someone, that thing was indestructible.

Btw, a month before the X was released I got a phone call from a relative. Advising me to buy a couple X"s as soon as it get released. According to him they will be worth 2500-3000 within the first hours after release.

I didn't do it cause I can't believe someone is willing to spend that much money on a phone. He was right though, within hours they were listed on eBay for 2500-3000.

I'm just thinking: why? It's a phone...not a space shuttle..

Samsung updates their AOS.  And iPhones update their IOS.   Didn't you read the recent article about Apple slowing down older phones with the updates on purpose?  Makes folks more likely to buy a new one.

Understandable, I had the same thing happen with a Samsung television I purchased and swore off anything Samsung.

Don't get me started on Samsung. They make some of the worst big appliances... went through months and months of fighting with them on behalf of my parents because of defective products before the retailer stepped in and replaced with a different brand for free.

I went through the problem of trying to figure out what phone to get recently. My husband was always into his Windows phone, which is a solid phone actually, it just infuriatingly has hardly any apps. He insisted on getting me one too, even though I had my eye on a Blade or a Moto. I was told that the Moto has big problems with ATT in our rural area though.. and that about broke my heart. So niche Windows phone it is for me, for now... though I'm told they will eventually stop support (they are hard to get ahold of these days too).

If you're lucky, you'll get one new version of Android with Samsung. If you want the latest and most frequent updates, buy the Google phone.

Verizon has great coverage and the Motorola Droid is basically their "brand' phone.

I love my Droid.

Google phone is also a great option. Husband renewed his contract and got the Google pixel.

The Google phone always gets the updates first and will get newer versions of Android which other manufacturers will choose not to make available.

I found my 1st generation iPad when we moved earlier this year. It had been in the garage for 3 years at least, probably frozen each winter, 100 degrees in summer, and it was covered in tools and boxes and other junk. I charged it up and it still worked, running IOS 5.1. Seemed to work OK but in the end I decided to toss it out on garbage day. I've had one smart phone start on fire already, so I didn't want to keep a device that's had the battery frozen multiple times in the house. Still, pretty impressive engineering that it lasted so long under those conditions. I've had smart phones that died just sitting on my desk.
