Oh god. That’s a lot.

I couldn’t even find a reason to go with work and travel while half of my colleagues were going every summer. I’m kinda picky when comes about weather, environment and ocean temp. So yeah. Canada is a great country but weather sucks. California is cold in winter and the ocean is cool all the year. Florida gets bad weather in summer. Anything else doesn’t attract me for more than a week 😂

I’ve found out that: great countries to live has worst weather ever (look at Northern Europe 😆).

Countries with great weather are usually poor :)) nothing perfect in this world. Or get hit by a typhoon in the middle of nowhere.

Ok. I’ll try to apply by the end of January or February. I’ll still do some research about and hopefully this will turn out good.

You should go to Okinawa, Japan. It's warmer than California and the ocean is much clearer. There is enough American vibe there too (due to the military bases) and Japan is a much easier country for you to visit, especially since you already have much of your family there.

Not true for non-immigrant visas.  You can apply in any country where you are physically present.  Your chances for approval are better where you have residence (and, therefore, usually greater ties/connections), but you can apply in any country you are in.

As I said before, I know people who were refused a NIV interview and told to go to their home country. I also stated that I did not know if it was universal but clearly it does happen. Note that they were not denied a visa - the consulate just refused to interview them.

I've been living (raised) in Japan, so I've been in Okinawa few times :)

I'm not going to CA for beach, was an example that I won't move there.

I'm currently in Asia (Philippines) and it's great.

I just wanna be in SF on a specific date for a specific event. :)

I think that, despite the near-consensus opinion here, you do have a reasonable chance of getting the B2 visa. It will be critical to have a very well-planned itinerary, showing all your plans and good reasons for departing the US. You have a very specific reason to be in the US and your continuing plan may just be convincing enough.

If I'm not mistaken you're also an EU citizen, which should help you establishing a good reason to depart the US. The main objective of a CO is to determine if you pose an immigrant intent risk. I know quite a few scientists who traveled for conferences in the US and who had very weak ties to "their countries", whatever that means. Their cases were nevertheless convincing.

Hopefully, that was several years ago -- it should not happen now, although mistakes happen.  Under current guidelines, an Embassy or Consulate must interview anyone who is physically in the country and has paid the MRV fee. There is one major exception, however.   When a visa is voided because of an overstay in the United States or a violation of nonimmigrant status, the individual can only apply in their home country or country of last residence outside the United States. Otherwise, an applicant can schedule an appointment anywhere they are in the world.

It actually happened just less than two months ago. There was no violation of status or anything like that involved.

What country? Who told them they couldn't apply?  Almost every visa section has a call center for appointment scheduling.  If one has "gone rogue", the Embassy should be told.  Likewise if it's an Embassy employee. Only an officer is authorized to send applicants away.  In order to see an officer, the applicant would have to have an interview appointment.  Something strange is going on....

Mexico. I don’t know exactly which consulate (whatever is closest to Cancun), or “who” told them they couldn’t apply there. I wasn’t there, I don’t know all the details, whether it was a officer or what.

if it was an Immigrant visa they are only done by CDJ, so quite possible.

We're talking about non-immigrant visas.  For NIVs, all of Mexico is considered one consular district.  BTW, closest to Cancun is Merida.

Suzie, was the person Cuban or Venezuelan by any chance?

We do not know who we are talking about in this particular case.
