K1 visa to green card Time

Hey everyone

Merry Christmas and happy holidays.

Does anyone know the current processing time from when an applicant who entered on k1 visa applies for a green card.

In other words. When my wife applies for a green card, how long will it take for her to receive it?

Is is there any place to check how long that processing time is?

Thank you!

Green card or AP/EAD AOS? Because those are two different things. OP asked about green card.

There is no specific and exact processing time for AOS.

Some rare cases get an approval after 2 months, others wait for 2 years.

Many wait for 6 months, even more people wait for 9 months.

Some people get interviews, some don't.

Some go through a fast field office, others a very slow one.

Some get interview dates after 3 months, some wait for 10 months - despite going through the same field office.

Some get approved on the spot at their interview, others get approved days, weeks or months after their interviews.

There are so many factors involved, it's impossible to be specific enough regarding the processing times.

Tell yourself it'll take around a year to get approved, be happy if it goes faster than that.

It all depends on NBC and your local field office and if you get any request for evidences.

Rough estimate is that it takes up to a year to adjust from a K-1 visa. No one can tell you the amount of months since it’s different for every applicant.

01/13/2016: I-129F filed  07/15/2016: K-1 visa in hand
10/13/2016: Filed AOS + EAD/AP.   07/07/2017: Permanent resident (Conditional)
04/16/2019: Filed ROC  11/17/2020: Approved. (10 yr GC)

Naturalization
09/02/2020: Filed (Online)    09/08/2020: NOA1: (NBC
10/22/2020: Biometrics Reuse Notice.  12/22/2020: Online Status Changed to Interview Was Scheduled.
01/29/2021: N-400 Interview - PASSED! 01/29/2021: Same-day oath ceremony.

I believe it is currently 10 months to VOH.  Add time to get married then add between 6 months and 3 years for the Green Card.  So NOA 1 to GC can be 18 months to 4 years.

PHILIPPINES ONLY!!!  CFO (Commission on Filipinos Overseas) INFO - Can't leave home without it!

PDOS (Pre-Departure Registration and Orientation Seminar) is for ages 20-59.  Peer Counseling is for 13-19 years of age.

It is required to have the visa in their passport for PDOS and Peer Counseling.

GCP (Guidance and Counseling Program) is for K-1 Fiancee and IR/CR-1 spouse ONLY.

It completely depends on your local processing office. Could be 4 months or 14 months. They best estimate (which still isn't great) is checking out the processing times on the website for your local office: https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do

Or search your local office processing times in VJ in the tabs on the top of the page.

01/31/17.... K1 Visa Approved

02/03/17.... K1 Visa Received in Hand

06/05/17....Arrived in the USA (LAX)

06/24/17....Married on Cape Cod <3

07/10/17....Sent AOS package (I-485, I-131, I-765)

07/17/17.... AOS notice date for NOA1 (I-485, I-131, I-765)

07/21/17.... Received mailed hardcopies of NOA1s

07/29/17.... Biometrics Notice received in mail

08/01/17.... Biometrics Appointment AOS - complete (walked in)

08/07/17.... Biometrics Appointment EAD - complete (walked in)

10/23/17.... EAD/AP card delivered to house YAY!

Many K-1 cases never go to a field office, no point in checking the processing times until you know for sure your case is actually there. So it's not correct to say that it "completely depends" on the field office.

But yes, if the application is actually sent to the local field office then that's one way to almost figure out how long it might take.

As an example, we had other people in the 2016 December filers thread who had their interviews at the same field office as me - but they had their interviews in March-April and I had mine i July. Several months difference, so even the processing times vary way more than what the website shows.

I guess my thought process while we wait is hope for the best but prepare for the worst (NVC approval best and local office 12-14 months at worst for us).

I would love to know if our case made it out of the NVC but it doesn't sound like there are many updates anymore on the AOS/GC process online. We filed in July and my case just still says received. Is there any way of knowing where your case ends up (NVC or local office)? I am assuming local office because of the time that has already passed on our case without any updates but it would be nice to know for sure.

In our AOS filers thread K-1 people were still approved just a month ago or so - without interview and case never left NBC, that's a whole year after they filed. The only way to find out where your case is at is to talk to a Tier 2 who is willing to tell you (not all of them are, sometimes you have to call and call to get someone who actually wants to help). They can see where your case is.
