Getting power of attorney among other things before submitting I 751

Hey all, first post but I've been reading for the past few days.

I was just curious about people's feelings about doing last minute things before filing like getting power of attorney over each other or adding my wife to my credit cards as a joint owner (currently she's just an authorized user). I think it might raise red flags but I don't plan on submitting those when I file because I'm filing in a couple weeks anyways. But if for whatever reason we get an RFE, I may have had those late additions for maybe 6 months by then. We don't have a weak case but I'm always one who likes to do as much as I can. Do you think it's worth making late additions like that? Thanks!

You can only send in the evidence you have.  Getting POA or creating wills, or joint ownership of CCs are all good evidence, and if the two of you decide to go that way it should be fine, and of course if an RFE arrives you have additional evidence.

Good Luck!

I thought authorized user is joint owner? I googled some and I even asked American express Customer service agent about joint owner but they all said the current trend is it becomes authorized users than joint owner.

Well, I enjoy traveling and like the free mileage for flight tickets and hotels, so I do start strategically develop credit card so I dont have to get penalty from Chase 5/24 rules,

but I never heard about Joint owners other than AU.

If I am wrong, can I ask which card service do you use?

Wills, POAs, and similar documents are excellent evidence for ROC.  They're even more important to have in "life."  Therefore, draft them as a priority, and include them in your ROC package.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Don't worry about any red flag issues, get those now and include in the package. With the current pace, you're looking at end of 2018 to hear anything including RFE. By then you'll have more evidences to include in the RFE package anyways such as your 2017 taxes, more bank statements, utility bills, travel itineraries, more photos, etc.

That is actually a good question.

I too was not aware of this, earlier this year, I found out that I have 0 credit score by doing a real check, even with my husband adding me as authorized user and CreditKarma etc showing that supposingly I have similar score with him.

I found out about this earlier this year when a nice visajourney poster (Suss&Camm thanks to her!) told me that its actually different.

Not all banks accept joint owners for credit cards anymore, most of them only offers authorized, even Macy's card. I managed to do so for Bank of America but not Chase, Wells Fargo or Citibank.

I had to get my own secured credit card (not qualified for CC) to actually see my own personal credit score goes up.

Other people have experienced their scores going up tagging with spouse, but sadly that did not work for my case. (Wonder if its because Im jobless)

PS: I think you're fine Nathanman, I mean my joint only started earlier this year when I found out about it, and all long I had authorized cards. Don't worry too much!
