K1 in USA finally applying for SS number/Card

My fiancee arrived in the USA on K1 and we are going to apply for her SS number this week.  What box do we check on the SS application on line 5 Citizenship , since we have no green card yet.

Is it Legal Alien NOT allowed to work?

What reason will we give? for Banking/residence purposes?

21 March 2017 (Tue): Delivered to Lewisville, TX

27 March 2017 (Tue): NOA1 via SMS and e-mail - petition assigned to CSC 

1   April 2017 (Sat): Received NOA1 I-797C Hard Copy

25 July 2017 (Tue): NOA2 approval 

29 July 2017 (Sat) : NOA2 Approval notice received by mail

8 August 2017 (Tuesday): NVC case number received

9 August 2017  (Wednesday) : Left NVC for Embassy

10 August 2017 (Thursday): Manila Embassy received and ready status on ceac.

5 September 2017 (Tuesday): Medical Exam SLEC.  X-Ray Positive so Sputum test ordered. Appt for Sputum set

27 September 2017 (Wednesday): Sputum exam x 4 days

1 December 2017 (Friday) : Sputum exam Completed and Vaccinations given . Ready for interview .

7 December 2017 (Thursday): Interview and approval

12 December 2017  (Tuesday): Passport with Visa ready to be picked at 2Go.

17 December 2017 (Sunday) : Flight and POE in USA..

24 August 2018 (Friday): AOS/EAD/AP packet in mail with USPS tracking number

4 September 2018 (Tuesday): Email and Text of USCIS Acceptance with 3  MSC # for all      (GC,EAD,AP)

8 September 2018 (Saturday):  Received our (3) NOA1 for (GC,EAD,AP)hard copy via mail

25 September 2018 (Tuesday) Biometrics Appointment

02 October 2018 (Tuesday): Case Status updated to Ready to Schedule Interview

28 January 2019: EAD/AP card approved

06 Feb 2019: EAD/AP combo received

09 May 2019: Interview

09 May 2019: 8 hours later Status changed to APPLICATION APPROVED..

14 May 2019: GREEN CARD ISSUED!!!

17 May 2019: GREEN CARD IN HAND!!!

I'm just talking about her SS card...i was under impression we file legal immigrant ,not allowed to work ,Because we have not applied for AOS yet

They can adjust status of SS number after we get her AOS/EAD/Green card approval.

My wife chose legal alien allowed to work.

 

A K-1 visa holder is permitted to work (with appropriate documentation, i.e. an EAD). Technically, a K-1 visa holder can obtain an EAD even before applying for AOS. Practically, this isn't possible as it expires at the end of the 90 days from entry, and takes ~120 days to get.

A greencard does not give you citizenship. You need to be naturalized for citizenship. Citizenship is the country in which you hold a passport for, most of the times it’s the country you are born in. A country you are a citizen of. A greencard gives you residency status in the US.

I didn't know the answer to this when I was filling in my application for Ssn either ..I thought legal alien not allowed to work because I didn't have a work permit yet..But my local Ssn checked my application off as legal alien allowed to work ... and I received my Ssn card still with the words (authorized to work with dhs) basically saying only authorized to work with a work permit. Honestly I wouldn't worry took much about it..Just ask them when you go in person.

Yes we understand that but the social security office checked off authorized to work on the ssn application and I received my ssn card. Isn't that what this forum queation is about? The op is asking what box to check off on the application. They know they are not allowed to work.

Then  the ss card should should be corrected, the OP asked which which box to check, it should be legal resident NOT authorized to work

K1 is authorized to work pursuant to status.

 

EAD is the evidence required by the I9.

the K1 just cannot work until they receive their "DHS authorization" ie the EAD.
