Hello!

I am applying for my mom to come and visit me in Chicago. I bought the plane tickets and we are set. I will be going to Macedonia to visit and on the way back she will fly with me. I am filling out the DS 160 form online for her and will have her sign it at the end. My mom is bad with computers and her English doesn't go past Hi how are you? :)

I will cover all of her expenses. She is retired and does not work, but she gets a nice pension.

There is that one question about the mental disorder. See, my mom is schizophrenic. That's why she is not able to work. She is taking medication, and she is perfectly stable. Has been for over 15 years. She is not a danger to herself or anyone else. Still, I do not want to answer NO to her disease but I don't want to answer YES for her being dangerous.

Any opinions you guys

???

Hope you bought the "refundable" type of plane tickets. Applying for a  visitor visa is by no means a guarantee of getting one.

And be 100% truthful on any application.

If she is not  a danger to herself or others then answer no, why are you torn between yes and no ?
I don't remember the exact questions in the form but if it asks for a mental condition then that would be a yes.
Never buy tickets ahead, you don't know the outcome of the interview.

You bought the tickets for her flights?  How does she plan to show evidence to prove she will return to her country (which she absolutely MUST do to get a visa)?

I'm sure you are aware that she can not come to the US via a visitor visa with the intent to stay here and adjust status...

Not sure who you think is frustrated based on the above comments.

Sorry if it seems negative, but everything above is correct. A cardinal rule is to never purchase (non-refundable) tickets until the visa is in hand.

If you think this is negative, you're in for quite a surprise when dealing with a CO. You asked for opinions on a public forum...don't be surprised when you don't hear what you want to hear.

This is probably the main indicator of why to be ready for a refusal...not (unable?) to cover her own expenses, no job, US relatives, etc. It sounds like she's high risk for a 214b refusal (immigrant intent). Macedonia has a fairly high refusal rate normally, so a strong case (strong ties home and few ties overseas) is usually necessary.
