I actually agree with Mango on this one. If this allowed to expire then I would be pissed because it does help out kids that need it.

Thanks. When I was younger I worked as a retail store manager and did not have coverage for pre-existing conditions. My daughter was born with a congenital heart defect that needed two surgeries. The CHIP program allowed us to pay 120 a month that gave her preventative care and coverage for these surgeries.

It was a boost to my self esteem as a young father to pay the premium, I would have gladly paid the unsubsidized rate just to get coverage. I was piece of mind to know we had coverage. I think it saved her life because we were able to go to UCLA for a surgery that was not done with the same results locally. There are always pools if money to pay for these things, but who wants to be a beggar?

If someone has not had seriously Ill kids it may be a challenge to empathize. I totally empathize and think bouncing these programs and kids around is a bad deal for everyone. I am surprised all these years later that CHIP does not have permanent funding.

CHIP covers about 9 million children across the nation whose parents usually earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private health coverage — typically no more than $62,000 for a family of four. The program cost about $15.6 billion in fiscal 2016, funded almost entirely by the federal government.

And you can relax... it was extended by Congress.

Extended till March

Glad it worked to your benefit, as well as your daughter’s.  And I am surprised that until you posted this article, I had never heard of CHIP.

I had never heard of it either but once I heard about it and did my research I like it. I think it is a good program for kids.

They show it occasionally on MeTV.  I did watch the movie while on an airplane a few months ago, and I actually liked it.
