So you are saying that isn’t common?  I never said they were the only evidence and I don’t care if you believe me or not. You can find the info if you want to. My example is more of the rule than the exception. That is so common there that this is not considered a bad thing. It is just the way of life. Annulments cost around 400,000 pesos and take years. When you earn 300 to 500 pesos a day that is a lot of money.

I find it interesting of the differing views on women's virginity in the Philippines from folks who have spouses/partners there. In the end, does it really matter?

It matters enough to the guy who brought it up on a thread of a totally unrelated topic.

The average age that a woman in the Philippines loses her virginity is 15.  There are not a tremendous amount of virgins there.  Many are deflowered by much older married men.  It is a very confusing society.  86% catholic with no divorce but also very few marriages that retain fidelity.  Rose's sister is married and hasn't seen her "husband" in over 20 years.  She has a child with her live in boyfriend who is also married to another woman he hasn't seen in 18 years.

I think he was referring to the virginity part and not the annulment part. We ALL know the annulment process costs alot of money and takes alot of time.

Now if you are talking about squatter villages, then maybe there are not many virgins living in the poor areas.  Many of the girls I have known over the years were not allowed to date until they finished college.

I agree with you on this, I think it all depends on the areas you hang out in and not overall generalizing people. The people I know and my wife knows on average don't hang around squatter areas and generally adhere to a higher standard than that.

What they are allowed to do and what they do are very different things ;)

My wife's family is in a squatters area. One sister got pregnant young and out of wedlock. Two others got married then started a family (can't verify if they were virgins or not ;) ). My wife did not even know how to kiss when we met in person and she was 21 :). Her youngest sister is 19 and not allowed to date (by me since I am sending her to school). But she is very focused on her studies and I am not worried at all about her. So is virginity still a virtue there? I believe so, but teen pregnancy is becoming a major problem from what I see and read. I think one of the biggest reasons is lack of child support laws and ability to enforce them if they did have them.

I will agree that less fortunate people living in poverty probably make up a bigger portion of the people that end up pregnant while young and single. Fortunately for my wife's family she has a strong father that has always been there so they had a role model to follow.

What are peoples opinions on the latest talks of legalizing gay marriage in the Philippines? The church losing it's grip? Will divorce be allowed next?

No Doubt

But that is when a persons values and how they were raised will kick in also.

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Of course it does.

It was a deciding factor for me on whom I choose.

I also took into consideration their family and their education.

I look at marriage as more of a business decision.  I decided I wasn't going to marry a girl from a poor family and all the head aches that come with that.

I wanted a girl who didn't come from a broken home, a person whom only knew about two parents being married for life.

I wanted a girl with a college degree.

I set standard for the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with

Divorce has been up for votes many times and it never passes.  I assume the same will be true for same sex marriage.
