I was listening to an interview with an expert on Blockchain and he mentioned how experts are looking forward to the first Blockchain currency disaster so folks can get that out if their system and move on to the more value added applications. This might be  the  start of it.

I tried last week to open an account on Coinbase. ZERO luck they closed my account for no given reason before I could even fund it.

Looks like the best thing that "never" happened to me. LOL

This isn't even newsworthy tbh. Cryptos are alot more volatile than stocks and can go down 50% in two days and be at new ATH the next week. Financial media likes to panic but those actually dealing with crypto expected this and more(I don't believe bitcoin is done). It doesn't matter in the long term though, crypto is the future and while there will be volatility here and there, anyone in the space will keep making bags of money in the next couple of years. Bitcoin is a dinosaur anyway. Nobody actually likes it except for noobs and those who believe it draws attention to the crypto space as a whole. It is ok as a store of value, but way too slow and expensive to ever serve as a currency. There are many better projects out there.

From what I have seen you have to buy BITCOIN in order to then turn around and by the other cryptos which was my goal.

If you know of a way around having to first buy BITCOIN that "WORKS" then let this "noob" know.

These are funds that I would have otherwise just put on the casino table so not my retirement future on the line. Thanks

Kraken, Coinbase, host of others all gave me the boot.

Several others state not taking new customers, system overload etc.

Latest news states hacking of the buying platforms is occurring .

btc is but one way to buy other crypto.  ltc works, but eth seems to be a better buy, and is faster to xfer than btc.

I have a friend who has put $38K of his own money into crypto starting back in July, and now has a portfolio of coins worth over $150K and growing every day.

There are many coins you can use, ETH works alot cheaper and faster than BTC. LTC at times is an option as well like Dave mentioned. And some, you can actually buy using USD. Even the ones you need BTC to buy, it's best to first buy ETH, deposit that ETH into the exchange you need to buy whatever coin your're buying, then sell it for BTC, and only then use that BTC to buy it. If you deposited the BTC it would cost you like $15 right now, if you deposited eth it would cost you less than $1. Not to mention the fact BTC can take hours whereas ETH takes seconds, or minutes at most.
