Was hoping to have the in laws visit us in USA next year. My wife is their only child and they're not rich by any stretch. They are building a new house early next year and have a lot of brothers and sisters and cousin's in Vietnam. Will that be enough or are we pretty much guaranteed to be denied? My wife will likely be testing for citizenship mid next year. Should we just plan on petitioning for them to immigrate vs getting travel visas?

To viait the US you have to have a lot of assets in VN, and have already visited about 5 other countries and came back. The cheapest one i heard was $10k for paperwork and it bring you to near by countries, like Philipines, australia, europe and final destination will be US. Too many people stays in the US illegally so we are getting screwed for the legit people who just want to visit

My wife's aunt got her Visa to visit her daughter (my wife's cousin) a month ago. She's still in California until February 2018. It was her first trip overseas ever. She has a house in Saigon, no businesses, and perhaps no big bank account, either.

Just saying.

Can you ask her exactly how she did it? Maybe you just answered your own question. And I want to know too. Maybe visiting her daughter is different than tourism?

It is totally dependent of the person reviewing the visa.  If they make the judgement that the person has enough assets/family ties/personal stake to not just leave Vietnam then the visa will be approved.  Beyond this, I do not know of a set criteria other than being filthy rich.  The only friends I have seen get their visa approved for visit is ones that have substantial assets in Vietnam.

They are building a new house

They have lots of family

They are not rich

BUT

They will be immigrating to the US?

Yes, my wife will be going through the naturalization process this summer and we'll go through I-130's at that point.

@Boiler was pointing out a contradiction. You want them to use the new house and big family as strong ties to Vietnam but as soon as your wife is capable to, they will be immigrating to the US.

These are the type of things that will make a CO hesitant to issue a visa.

I see.  Immigration would not come up before a travel visa attempt, only if it's untenable. They're really on the fence on whether they'd like to live in the US or not, but my wife being their only daughter makes it a necessity that they are able to visit us and their grandchildren in the US.

The cost of a couple of visa applications is peanuts compared to what you are looking at.
