My wife has already spent 5 years as a green card holder and has also applied for her citizenship now 6 months with immigration. She wants to apply for my permanent residence now. Will that be good now and how long will it take for me to get my green card too? 

 

I need your advice

How long have you been married? Do you live apart? The reason I ask is if she has been living with you for very long periods of time, residing outside of the US, she stands the risk of having forfeited her GC, unknowingly, by not maintaining residence in USA. They're going to be very picky about this when they examine her citizenship application, counting up every single day that she was out of the country.

 

To answer your question, she can submit an i-130 now for you as a GC holder. The process takes about 2 years for a GC holder and about 1 year for a USC. Good luck.

She can start the process by submitting I-130,I-130A , G1145 form and supporting documents. Initially , it will be on F2A category. Then when she becomes citizen, she can upgrade the category to IR1

Might be cleaner if she is expecting to naturalise very soon to just file as a USC.

 

Is she also Nigerian?

Thank you for the answers. If she files now on GC on F2A category as you said its 2 years and as soon as she gets her citizenship and its upgraded to iR1 category, how long will it now take all things being equal?

For citizens expect 10 to 14 months. Things can change at a drop of a hat but realistically expect a year.
