Hello everyone new member here on this great forum hoping someone can help me and shed some light I'm currently filling and gathering all necessary documents evidence and forms for me and my fiancéI am the petitioner (USC) and would like to send out my packet in the next coming weeks.

question, looking over on the application on Part 3 other information cont. on 2b. and 2c I respectfully checked no because it does not apply to me

I'm really stressing on the following question on 4a a little background of my conviction I was arrested and convicted for misdemeanor DUI 8 years ago and is my only and never again conviction history I don't have any other records a stupid irresponsible mistake that I took really serious and the consequences it had my parents where very disappointed in me but it was a mistake I immediately wanted to take care of it and comply with all court orders paid fine attended the school completed my probation and recently wanted to look on the website on info about the case shows closed and completed

how would I go about answering the question yes or no ?

also I never mentioned it to my fiancé because I never wanna bring it up and have her think I am a criminal I'm really a good person and she know how much we love each other also scared of what her parents will think of me really sad every time I think about it

thank you in advance everyone

I'm not clear on your question. Should you tell the truth? Of course. You should disclose and provide court and police records.

This will be disclosed to your fiance during the embassy interview.
I can't imagine your fiance would appreciate that kind of surprise. Plus, who starts a relationship that way anyhow?

I made mistakes in my past. I told my fiance on our second date.

I see thanks for your reply me and my fiancé been together for 4 years so you are suggesting I should have disclose that to her when we started our relationship and say hello I have a DUI either way I was gonna tell her about it sooner or later guess this might be a good time

I didn't mean to impose any judgment. I understand this is a stressful situation and respectfully, I had to face the same dilemma. It wasn't easy. I chose a different strategy, but that doesn't mean I'm right and you're wrong.

The "when" is up to you.

Just ask yourself this...Should I tell my fiance or should I let my fiance find out from the US Govt? If I don't tell my fiance, how will this impact our relationship?

The answer is within you, not this forum.

every relationship is different and I don't want to impose anything on anyone.

My strategy is simple and remains so today. We tell each other EVERYTHING, even at the risk it will kill one of us. That's a commitment we made to each other on our second date... I chose to share my mistake(s) to show her how serious I was about that commitment.

You got a DUI. A lot of people do. Tell the truth to the US Gov't and your fiance. You will feel better about yourself when you do.

If you want to talk it through, PM me.

It's past. You're probably overthinking it. Just tell her. At least you are the petitioner and not the beneficiary. Could be worse.

Lying is a reason for denial.  They will already have your criminal record.  Just be open and honest.  Anything less may be cause for flat out denial.  Seriously, it was 8 years ago.  Is your relationship that weak that she would leave you for that?  Relax.  Be honest.  You are fine.

I, too, have a driving under the influence charge in my background.  I did not disclose this on our petition as I was informed that you do not have to.  From what I was told, if it was not a felony conviction or one of the charges that they questions then it is not relevant to the petition.  (I could have been told wrong but our petition was approved with no issues)  That is not to say that they do not have this information on you though.  As others have stated, your fiancé will receive a complete copy of your background check at the interview and this contains all charges associated with your name.  So in my opinion, I would be honest and go ahead and make her aware.  It is better to hear it from you than for her to be blindsided by it at the interview (which is supposed to be a very exciting and happy day).  Your DUI from 8 years ago does not make you a bad person.  You made a mistake and you learned from it and your fiancé should be (and I am guessing will be) understanding of this.  Good luck to you!

Relax it should not be any  problem for you.  I just went through USCIS with a  9 month wait for NOA2 on a  worse record than yours.  You will be fine.

I had a TX DWI and I told my then-fiancee about it and put it on the petition. I don't remember when I told her. There were worse things than that about myself that I needed to disclose to her before I proposed, things that made her cry, but in the end, the things needed to be said if she was gonna know my past. We are still together and still honest about everything.
