Hello! And thanks in advance for your amazing insights. I am married and going through AOS process now. My question is about retired joint sponsor who files taxes jointly with his wife.

So this kind man who is willing to joint sponsor me started receiving his SS retirement payments just 6 months ago. His expected annual and nontaxable earnings are around $22,000. We have a paperwork on that, however technically he only got a part of it yet. His latest jointly filed income tax return shows $20,500. Most of it though been made by his wife, who agreed to sign I-864A.

I know it does not look like much, but they may also add some assets to it, probably their bank account savings. We are working on it now. Also their two previous years tax returns showed around $30K.

My primary questions though are as follows…

1) What number to put into “My current individual annual income” for him in Part 6, Item 2 on I-864?

2) Is it correct to use their total joint income, $20,500, as his wife’s income for I-864? This number will then match his total taxable income in Part 6 Item 19.a.

3) Knowing answers to 1) and 2) I will know then what to put into Part 6 Item 15 - “My Current Annual Household Income” for him. I am confused about it too right now.

THANK YOU!
