we will! 6.5 months or so til we file. super excited to finally be able to wash our hands of all things immigrations. Then we will set our sights on moving back to Nicaragua, I suppose that depends if the political climate calms the heck down as to when exactly we will make the move down there.

I already have a list of what docs I will need to get residency!

Just registered - January 5, 2018 filing date at CSS and received the transfer file notice in June that the file was transferred from Potomac VA to California processing center. Very confusing, as we assumed all along, that the petition for ROC was with California all along. However, from these very helpful posts, others have experienced the same. Also, no 18 month extension letter as of yet. I check the USCIS site every 15th of the month for any updates. Sadly, the case status is the same as in June (file transfer) and the processing time at CSS is now 18-22 months.....(big sigh). Thanks for all of the very informative and reassuring posts. :-)

To Be, or Not To Be . . .

My wife and I gave this question much consideration long before we ever filed our I-129f Visa Petition. Many countries allow dual citizenship, but not all do. As for my wife's home country of South Korea, such is not the case. If she were to become a US citizen, she would be required to forfeit her Korean Citizenship. The ramifications of that would be:

1.) She would, like me, be able to travel to her home country on the Visa Waiver Program (for as long as that lasts) but would be limited

to a 90-day visit. Beyond that time limit, she would be required to apply for a travel visa to visit her home country.

2.) We could not easily chose to live there for any length of time beyond the limits of a travel visa.

3.) We could not start a business there, should we ever choose to do so.

4.) She would lose her current Korean Citizen Benefits.

If at some time in the future we should have a need or desire to relocate to South Korea, it will be amazingly simple to do so with her retaining her Korean Citizenship, and it will then be My Turn to become the card-carrying Resident Alien.

Other than the occasional paperwork requirements, as my Spouse and Resident Alien, she can fully enjoy all of the benefits in the US that me as a born US citizen does.

So for us, it is a Better Option at this time, is for her to retain her Korean Citizenship.

We will also be completing the citizenship paperwork at 3 years! And then moving back to Canada to get my PR there! Glad to see we aren't the only ones on this long immigration journey! Cheers, and good luck!
