Ja I know. But since my daughter has both and my husband is us citizen, I might as well do it.

our ultimate goal is citizenship for sure so I will be waiting with great anticipation to complete 2018 taxes as early as possible next year so that we can file! I figure to get those done first so they don't waste time asking me for them in a completely avoidable RFE. AND I think ND only does like 3 or 4 citizenship ceremonies per year which is LAME compared to our neighbor MN which has 1 or 2 ev'ry month. so filing asap at the beginning of the year hopefully means they will have us processed for one of those few-and-far-between ceremonies especially since online filing seems to go so much faster than submitting a pile of papers. I've just been adding to my ROC pile of statements knowing that we'll be submitting the same info this next and final round. We are planning to live in Nicaragua and him having the freedom to travel to and from the states is what we need.

Great for you guys! We too are planning to move out of the US and move to Japan. We visited and absolutely fell in love! I live in California and in San Diego they do the citizenship ceremonies once a month luckily. I’m sorry they only do it a few times a year over there where you are :(! I hope the fastest response to both the green card renewal and the citizenship!

Who else is going to file the petition for citizenship as soon as the window opens??

I wanted to apply but I’ve been reading posts that uscis officers are not happy when people go to citizenship interview without roc approved.. I’m afraid to get a mean one and make things worse 😰😅.. I’m still undecided 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think my case might be different. My window opened July of 2017. I filed and went through all the process. Fast forward to Jan 2018 I filed to ROC. Feb of 2018 went for the interview for citizenship and was told by the officer until I  can get the ROC approved, he can't adjudicate thereby putting my N400 on hold until ROC is approved. Officer told me once an interview for the ROC is set, I should call the local office and ask for him, he might conduct both interview the same day.

Anyone still waiting for any information since they received the initial NOA? We haven't received anything since January (already had an info pass appt, they said we should be hearing if they need anything) but haven't heard anything for biometrics - should we get another info pass? Any advice?

Also, planning on applying for N-400 as soon as available to us!

Before your 1- year extension letter date expires, you would need to log onto this website

https://my.uscis.gov/en/appointment/new?appointment[international]=false

and schedule an infopass appointment to your Local office to get an I-551 stamp in your foreign passport, to maintain your legal presence in the U.S.

Because a 1-year extension of your temporary greencard is proving to be 'not enough time' because of the growing backlog of cases, USCIS is currently sending out replacement letters with an 18-month extension. Look for one in your mailbox sometime in the next few months.

Infopass can only be scheduled out to two weeks, that is to say from the date you attempt to schedule one and two weeks forward. They stay booked almost 100% all of the time, and you have to be lucky (when you log on and attempt to schedule) to find a recently cancelled appointment opening. They seem to be filled within minutes of someone cancelling. So, actually achieving an appointment can require you logging on daily, and even multiple times daily, to attempt to schedule your infopass appointment. When you plug in your zip code, you will almost always see a message that "There are no appointments available'. Over and over again, day after day. The current suggestions from people who have actually achieved their Infopass, is to begin your many-times-daily attempts at least 30-days before your extension date expires. Generally, your local office will not issue your I-551 stamp earlier than 30 days before your expiration date, and it can take up to 30-days to 'get lucky' and score an infopass appointment.

My suggestion, when the time comes, take the first appointment that shows to be available. If you wait a few minutes to check your calendar and/or schedule, that appointment availability will be occupied by someone else.

So the I-551 stamp is to get after the 12-month extension letter is expired, correct?

12.03.2015 - Sent AOS package to USCIS Chicago

12.06.2015 - Package delivered

12.14.2015 - Text received from USCIS; case received

12.17.2015 - NOAs received on my birthday! :)

01.07.2016 - Appointment for biometrics

01.11.2016 - Form I-485 ready to be scheduled for interview

02.17.2016 - EAD/AP approved

02.24.2016 - EAD/AP arrived today

03.18.2016 - Notice for interview scheduled April 20, 2016

04.20.2016 - Green Card Interview

04.26.2016 - Green Card received

End of this journey!

01.2018 - Sent I-751 - 10-year Green Card package

04.25.2019 - I-751 approved

Yes, the I-551 stamp is to allow Legal Presence after the Extension Letter expires.

However,

All I-751 Petition filers Should Be receiving an 18-month extension letter soon.

Infopass is required to access your local office to get the stamp.

It can easily take 1-month of trying to be able to secure an infopass, depending on your Local Office.

So,

I would recommend beginning your Infopass booking efforts No-Later-Than 30 days before your extension letter expiration date.

yes. its advised to get it couple weeks before your GC expires. USCIS may send 18 month extension letter to folks as well. Depends on when do they think your case will be processed.

Hi all,

My case was received in California on January 17.

I received notice that I do not need a biometrics appointment on May 5th. Which I thought was amazing and will hopefully speed things up a bit!

Just curious if anyone else here has gotten any further than this? Did you get approved or any other sort of notice? Are they still alive at USCIS? lol

I've never received anything important quicker than 3 months, so I'm hoping to hear news sometime in August!

Fingers crossed and keeping it posi!

Edited by Nele
03/02/2015: filed I-129F at the USCIS Texas

03/13/2015: received confirmation (Form I-797), file will now get routed to the USCIS California Service Center for processing. We wait :)

Hi! Same here. My case was received on Jan 26 and on May I got a letter for no biometrics required. Like you I'm being positive and also praying to God for things to be approved soon.  🙏

The wait times also changed, when I checked in May, it was 9 months to a year. So I don’t know if the increased wait time applies to all cases or just to the cases filed around the time they updated it. There’s so many factors that play into this... I feel like it could go either way.

The wait time has now extended to 18mths for CSC. Persons who file RoC now get an 18mth extension letter.

The biometrics would not be needed because they already have your fingerprints on record (finger prints are unique and do not change). They still charge you the biometrics fee anyways, which is non-refundable (go figure!)
