VSC filers have another 7-8 months to go, CSC filers probably 12+ at current speeds.

For CSC that's on the low end. 18-20 months now.

Hello everyone,

I have some traveling in the near future and would like your opinion on what's the best route to take in regards to paperwork with expired GC.

I have a global entry card, and before my green card expired passing through customs and immigration was a breeze. The last time I traveled my GC was already expired, however, I still went to the global entry booths. As expected the process was halted and the supervising officer at the booths told me to go to the port entry official. I showed all the paperwork, he seemed a bit unfamiliar but still reviewed quickly and let me go through. When I asked him if I should go somewhere else next time, he just shrugged and said to take my business elsewhere. It was still fast process.

Wondering if I should get a passport stamp or which are the best steps into getting in and out of the country faster.

Thanks

I just got back from Europe and it was okay.. problem was Lufthansa got almost entirely rid of their in person check-in when i tried it online and on the kiosk i always got an error as my greencard was expired...

when i finally found a person check-in was easy and they looked at the letter and said i am fine..

at poe (lax) things were smooth.. i went to the officer he scanned greencard looked at the letter and let me in without asking one single question..

just my story :) hope you are all fine and not worried too much about this endless process...

good luck processing time fastens up.. i would be happy if they would approve us before the actually 1 year extension ends..

i just started a new job and havent talked to hr yet, hope they are okay with my paperwork.

Or, the other side of that coin is that:

Until this measure was taken, when the 11th month of waiting arrived, we were obliged to make an attempt (or several attempts) to gain an Infopass, and after obtaining one, take time off from work to go to the local field office to get the I-551 stamp in our Passport in order to remain compliant.

This new 18-month extension letter, while not encouraging, at least saves us the extra effort while we continue to wait for our petitions to be approved.

Will this applied to the ones the already issued? Or the new receipt notices??  I'm so confused 😅

Yes, read the paragraph above that starts with 'Additionally', and it tells you that those of us with a 12-month extension letter (I-797) will be issued a New I-797 that extends the green card for 18-months.

I have an I-551 stamp in my passport and was traveling to Europe recently. Only when I tried to board on the way back they noticed that the date on the stamp was wrong and it says that it was issued in 2019. <_< The guy at the airport had to make a phone call to check everything but it was fine in the end. After landing they took me to the secondary inspection for maybe 5 minutes and sent me my way, so all in all it was a good experience. It sucks that I can't use the automated kiosks anymore, that was super nice with the green card.

I'm in agreement with this. I was already dreading the stress of trying to get a InfoPass appointment.

Everyone - start letting us know when you new NOA comes through - anxiously awaiting mine, now!

So that means will be receiving an "updated" extension letter?

Yes, that paragraph states:

'Additionally, We Will Issue New Form I-797 receipt notices to eligible conditional permanent residents whose I-751 or I-829 was still pending as of June 11, 2018.'

The date on this notice was June 12, 2018.

So, to bottom line the notice,

Those I-751 and I-829 petitioners who receive their I-797 receipt after June 12, 2018, will receive the new I-797 that includes an 18-month extension of their conditional I-551 Green Card.

Those of us who filed before June 12, 2018, and are still waiting, will receive a new (updated) I-797 receipt with the 18-month extension statement to their I-551 Green Card, to Replace the old 5b214cbf53ddb_NewI-797for18monthsParagraph.thumb.jpg.eddd5fca4760f7bf0bc73708b9be588f.jpg.
