Here’s my thoughts on today’s USCIS webinar, ‘USCIS Online Processing Times Update’.

The webinar was all about the new look processing times page and the improvements made in case time calculation.
https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/

It wasn’t about improving those actual times.

Some takeaways:

  • In Oct 2016 USCIS directorates formed the Processing Times Working Group to address concerns and high volume of case inquiries. Their aim is to reduce service requests, improve timeliness and make the website easier to read and interpret.
  • They started building data using these 4 forms: N400, I-90, I-485 and I-751
  • One of the objectives is faster responses to case inquiries for cases that are outside of processing times
  • Case inquiry dates should now update every 2 weeks rather than 6
    https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/more-info
  • In response to being asked multiple times, the USCIS team did say they’d look into posting a recording of the webinar. Didn’t say where or when though.
  • The webinar lasted about an hour

They asked for feedback (your perspective) on the new processing case time calculation, web page navigation and display, tools and resources. They did seem very keen to hear from us, so send your thoughts here: public.engagement@uscis.dhs.gov  (Don’t try case specific inquiries this way though, they won’t respond.)

Random observations:

  • It was an external stakeholder presentation, and it seemed like there were a lot of attorney agencies in the 500-strong audience. (There were probably more people who joined in a group using one connection)
  • Applying for status is such a soulless, faceless process, good to hear from real people working at or for USCIS – they sounded human :)
  • There was a Q&A at the end of the presentation, I got the impression the questions were mostly from
  • attorneys and agencies
  • The presentation was PowerPoint on screen, and you had to dial-in to actually hear the presenters. I didn't know the number until 10 minutes in, but did see all the slides

I was not able to make it on the webinar as it was blocked by work, but here is a summary from another user in the October 2017 thread that was able to make it on.

Hi all,

I just wanted to update you. We submitted an inquiry about the bio letter almost 2 weeks ago. We received a reply today and its different than the replies that others have posted in here. Where most replies have said fingerprints might not be necessary, our reply is saying they've added us to a appointment scheduler..... Has anyone else seen this? Here it is:

On 03/12/2018, you or your representative contacted USCIS concerning your Form I-751 / CRI89 to notify us that you have not received an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center (ASC). Below is a summary of what we found and how the issue has been or may be resolved.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding an appointment to have your biometric images processed at an Application Support Center (ASC). We are unfortunately experiencing a longer processing period than what is reflected on your Form I-751 Receipt Notice for this process. Please know that your name has been electronically added to the appointment scheduler. You will receive an ASC appointment notice by mail once an appointment date has been established for you.

We hope this information is helpful and appreciate your continued patience.

The k you for providing us with this info. Honestly, you guys keep me going. Last week was hectic because we are all dealing with emotions but we rely on this group for that support. This post was insightful and I hope progress happens for all of us soon. We are practically three months down! Nope not seen this, so maybe you're information on a system shows as outdated and thats why they've added you? Its been 80 days since my package was received and still no bio's for me and the only update is that my case has been received by my local offie.

I came back in to the U.S. last night from the UK with 5 days on my current GC and the CBP officer did not care to look at my letter even when handed, simply said "you're all good man".

We shouldn’t - when I first got my GA DL, I only had the stamp in my PP as I hadn’t received my green card yet, and had no issues.

i talked to a few people and a lawyer and they told me the chances that the “beibehaltungsantrag” will be approved are way higher when you live here for a longer time.
