So, what’s everyone doing for a living? How hard was it for you as immigrants to find a job? I’ve been a stay at home wife/mom since I got here but I want to finally be able to support my family financially. But looking on all the websites that offer jobs I get very discouraged..

I'm a lead bank teller at the moment but hoping to be a stay at home mom when we welcome our firstborn this Feb. Then when are kids are in school I'll find something again. We're currently seeing if we can do it on his paychecks alone by putting all mine into savings and so far it's survive-able; just can't go to movies every weekend, go out to eat 3x a week, or go on lavish trips/outings. I sometimes translate for the public schools either with parent-teacher conferences or IEP documents for something extra on the side. Perhaps as a stay at home mom I can start my own local English/Spanish translating business or something since there's nothing here in state like that. I've translated something for the ND Dept of AG already, so hey, who knows what the future could bring.

 

Husband watched soccer and movies at home in his boxers until he got his green card then found work with a painting company during the summer. Now he works in the public school system as an EL Instructional Aide specifically for the kids who speak only Spanish. Has a lot of favor with the staff there and we're hoping that this somehow puts his foot in the door for other great future opportunities. Would be great if he could become a teacher but he'd have to take 4 years of college stuff since his bible classes aren't relevant towards teaching and it won't be cheap to start over.

 

He also coached the junior varsity soccer team for one of the local high schools and had an undefeated season. That was originally unpaid since the school system didn't want to risk paying him overtime (heaven forbid) since he was already working for them but we ended up getting a check in the mail anyway. Not in it for the money, but rather, the love of the game but we won't complain since every little bit helps, ya know!

I checked by status online it says my Name was updated. I haven't request for an update of my name. Anybody has a similar update? And what does such an update mean?

coolio! I hope that includes ND but that's just wishful thinking. Would be nice to have more than 3 or 4 naturalization ceremonies in a year as opposed to our Minnesota neighbors which have like 1 or 2 in a month!

The best suggestion I can offer, having read many examples online, is to include in your cover letter a complete list of the contents of your I-751 Petition. An Index. I would recommend using an Outline style list, which matches the order in which you have gathered your Petition Evidence.

Wow, I can't believe it has been 10 months already...what is everyone's guess when we will hear something? At the beginning of the process I was hoping for Feb 2019 - now I am thinking more like July 2019 or later...

I still believe in my prediction (posted earlier) that the majority of January 2018 filers will have their decisions around:

June 2019 for VSC filers

July  2019 for CSC filers

 

I haven't rechecked those numbers recently, so I'll try to filter back through the relative data points again this weekend and see if I need to tweak my prognostication.

Hi, So i am flying back from mexico tomorrow.. when they ask for expiration of greencard at online checkin.. do i just add 18 months to the expiration date on the greencard?

I do not remember them asking green card expiration date online. Passport is the international travel document.

Yes, AA did also ask for Green card expiration date, and, yes, we just added 18 months.
