Hi all!!!  For those who received the unofficial “courtesy copy”.

I called uscis and after being on hold for almost an hour the lady told me that they probably made a “mistake” and the original letter was sent out to my previous attorney. She said for me to call the attorney to check if they received the letter or to check with field office.

I mean she acted like a “mistake” like that wasn’t a big deal.  Now I’m even more stressed because what if the 10-yearGC is sent out to my previous attorney.  Or what if my package or any rfe is sent to the attorney and not me.

I told the lady I didn’t use an attorney this time and that the first 12-month extension was delivered to me but not the 18-month extension letter. Also she check on my “status” and she said that it shows that no notifications have been sent out at all.

I wonder if I should call again and see what the next person says.

At at this point I’m thinking on going to field office and to get things straightened out.

Hi Tomriesgo,

did you letter start reading:

“we have mailed an official notice about this case (and any relevant documentation) accordingly to the mailing preferences you chose on form G-28, notice of entry of attorney appareance... this is a courtesy copy, not the official notice”

I’m  concerned the official letter got sent to someone else or lost since we don’t have an attorney  we didn’t submit Form G-28.

I received my 18-month extension Saturday. It is the courtesy copy as well.

Did you ever had an attorney from previous filing?

I’ven been on the phone pretty much all morning speaking with several uscis reps. The first time I got connected to a tier 2. he was very rude and hung up on me saying he couldn’t confirm or deny any info and that my receipt number was not even on file so I needed to write a letter to csc. And all I was just asking where did my original official  extensión letter went to.

Now I’m waiting for a 2nd round (a tier 2 is supposed to call me back from their generated waiting on queue).

No. Never used an attorney. Though, when we filed my CR1 we used a visa service similar to RapidVisa.

Sorry for the long post

Follow up... to the courtesy copy....

i received the call from tier 2, around 12pm and this guy was very nice. he explained that uscis is experiencing  backlogs (we already know that, lol) and that the system is “creating” automatic 18- month letters some are courtesy  copies some are original. If I didn’t have an attorney then form G-28 doesn’t apply to me and since I received a copy that copy must be attached to my original 12month Ext letter. But if I have an attorney then the original was sent to attorney. he said that is very unlikely the official letter went to my former attorney.

Supposedly if we received an original 12month letter then the second letter is a copy. Form what I’ve read here there some fellows who received both originals12month and 18month.

I just hope all this calls I made didn’t messed up my case in their system since they kept asking for all my info (name,ss# and receipt #).

In conclusion I guess we got “lucky” and got a copy 😑

all i have to say now is that everything is in God’s hand 🙏 and everything will be alright.

No reason to be apologetic about a long post. All information is relevant, and both your efforts and time taken to share with us are appreciated.

As we have all come to know iover the past 3 1/2 years or so, any information that is received from USCIS via a phone call should be suspect, as the answers always seem to vary or be contradictory, depending solely on which USCIS agent one happens to get connected to. However, in this case, the information that you received sounds plausible, so is likely accurate.

There is no excuse for rudeness on the count of the first tier 2 representative that you spoke with, and that person deserves to be reprimanded for their blatant unprofessionalism. If you were kind in your response, we all applaud you.

It is my thinking that these people at USCIS are in a difficult position, processing through an ever-growing mountain of backlogged petitions, ( many of which are incomplete, inaccurate, and sometimes hard to read ) and their stress levels on a day to day basis must be taxing. So, while not offering any excuses for their occasional short tempers, please consider being forgiving towards them, and not take their sometimes abrasive attitude too personally.

Again, thanx so much for sharing your research findings. I am certain that many here are relieved at your findings.

Not a problem at all. I remained calm and polite to the rude tier 2, But because I was not happy with his answer I called again. Lol. That’s when the second guy was more explanatory.

I wonder if they add a note or something on my file since I called several times 🤔 and if that will messed up my case. It’s actually the first time call uscis asking questions about my case.

Has anybody traveled to Spain(Madrid) with the extension letter?

hello,

Yes ! I have traveled internationally with my extension letter, Spain being one of them. However, I went to get an I-151 stamp on my passport prior to taking any international trips & I have had absolutely zero problems.

We flew from LAX to London & London to Madrid & had no issues of course. We came home from Barcelona to LAX and had no problems either. I should mention that I also have Global Entry, therefore I still go in the Global Entry line upon arrival & speak directly to the immigration officer because I can't use the kiosk while on an Extension Letter.

I also traveled to Cabo, MX with the i-151 stamp & had no issues at all.

I carry a digital copy of my Extension letter and a hard copy of it when traveling to be safe.

Upon Checking in to my flight to Cabo the airline was very confused with the letter & had me waiting until they figured it out, but on the other flights I self checked in online and listed the expiration date of my green card to the date listed on the I-151 stamp and had no set backs.

The only reason I chose to get an I-151 stamp is because I was going to be travelling a lot this year and I didn't want to be carrying my original letter in all those trips and risk loosing it.

hope this helps ! let me know if you have any questions.

Bremach, Thank you for your response. I have global entry too. My concern is more about leaving Madrid. I would like to get the stamp but it is almost impossible, you gotta have a good reason for them to stamp your passport. Tell me how you got it ?

Thank you

As mentioned, I actually left Spain from Barcelona, and everything went smoothly. The airline counter did not ask anything about my stamp or letter. Barcelona has a passport check point after checking in, the officer there did not ask any questions either.

To get the I-151 stamp, I made an info pass appointment, in California they release them 15 days prior, so I was able to get one within 15 days. At the appointment all I asked was for an I-151 stamp because I was going to be travelling internationally a lot this year and did not want to have any setbacks. I took all my booked reservations with me, but I was not asked for them. The lady that helped me gave my passport to an immigration officer and after about 20 minutes I was called back up to the window and she gave me my passport with a stamp that had an expiration date one year from the appointment date. She said I can keep getting a new stamp as many times as needed until my case was resolved. They also took my expired green card.

It was fairly simple, I was in and out of there within 30 minutes.
