Hi,

I am getting ready to have two friends sign affidavits of "knowing us as a couple". Do they HAVe to be notarized? Any example fomr that I can use? How do I attach the notary lines (for signature, stamp etc)? Any help is appreciated!

Yes, all you need to do is leave a blank line for the notary to sign, and a line below that says "Notarized this XX day of MONTH, 2007" , and some space for their stamp. Of course, do this at the bottom of the document.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affidavit (yes wiki, not the greatest source, lol)

So, if one goes by what an 'affidavit" is, it has to be notarized to be an affidavit!! I just sent letters (not notarized) from a couple of friends. It had there contact info, so if Immigration wantyed to contact them, they could. I sent piles of other evidence as well, so the "letters" were just a nice to throw in item. One doesnt have to send affidavits or letters, all up to you!! With al the evidence I had, i didnt think it was necessary to go get the "letters" notarized. I received my 10 yr greencard with no probs. And yes others didnt send in any letters or affidavits and were improved. Other evidence such as both names on leases, bills, life insurance, are most likely more important. Best of luck, and yes do a search, lots of info.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

My friends prepared their affidavits, and the notaries that signed their documents ended up adding their own line for signature and date.

I had four notarized affidavit letters, to add with my other ton of evidence. I think they are helpful, IMHO.

there is a ton of posts about this, and the forum is split on this topic, most people say no they dont need to be notorized.

If it's not notarized, it's not an affidavit. Affidavits are sworn statements taken before a notary, court official, or other authorized person.

I didn't use one, but attached is a sample in MS Word of a professional-looking affidavit to be used in conjunction with an I-751:

My friends didn't notarize the affidavit letters. I received my 10 years GC back in December 2006. I don't know is this prove anything but don't worry too much. Others evidences play their role in this process too. Good luck. :)

The letters are only an example of proof that can be submitted.

I did not even bother getting these letters, since they are the weakest proof you can submit.

More important is financial proof and shared assets, like health and life insurance shared ownership of cars, apartment/house, and accounts with both incomes.

I would concentrate on these things.

I submitted my package without the letters and was approved, without any RFEs.

I-751 (Removal of conditions)

03-18-07 filled for removal of conditions

04-09-07 received notice of action

04-13-07 received biometrics appointment

05-01-07 biometrics appointment

05-08-07 received status card is in production

05-10-07 received status approval letter has been sent

05-14-07 received new 10 year permanent resident card in mail.

06-15-08 Applied for Naturalization

11-07-08 Naturalization Interview

01-29-09 Oath Ceremony

DONE!
