Not sure if this is the correct section or not but oh well.

I was reading the instructions for the I-134 and it says that we need a note from my bank stating when I opened up the account and what the ytd deposits and present balance is. I've never read here that people have had to do this. Is this a simple thing that the bank will give me or will it take a lot of time do you think?

Doodlebug,

If you meet the income requirements from your employment, you really don't have to do the bank statement thing. It is up to you what you reveal/disclose.

As for how difficult it is - it's not, you just talk to your bank manager, explain what you need and they'll do it for you.

It is best if you have kept all of your paper bank statements and take them to your branch to write the letter.

If you can access your account information online, then you can print out your statements and take it to a bank representative to write the letter based on your past statements. Some banks only keep your information locally for the past six months. Worse case scenario, you would need to have them reordered if you cannot obtain the info from you local bank branch.

Personally, I brought in the I-134 to show the representative exactly what the letter had to say. Also do everything in duplicate so that you can have a backup for your fiancé.

My bank did it for me in a week - I rang them, told them what I needed, they said "it will cost a research fee of $15 for each account" as I was getting my co-sponsors bank details as well, then when I went to get the papers they asked why I needed it, I said it was for my husband and sons visas and they waived the fees :)

It may be over kill but we gathered all the information so we had the 4 out of 4 just to be cautious. But I'm a worrier!

soni1952,

Look over the I-134 instructions one more time, and this time look for the words "as appropriate".

If one does not report bank account information on their I-134 then a bank letter to document the non-existant bank account information is not appropriate.

I've got the instructions for the I-134 right in front of me and it says:

"Evidence should consist of copies of any or all of the following documentation listed below that are applicable to your situation."

So... a statement from your bank is not required as long as you have sufficient documentation in other areas.

For myself, I don't have a savings account, only a checking account, so I didn't think a statement regarding that account would do much good. I sent in my tax returns for the last two years, three pay stubs from past checks, and a statement from my employer regarding my salary and job position.
