Hey, we just recently applied for AOS for my wife. We got the receipt notice and this week the  biometrics notice. Last night we noticed that the A-number on all the notice of actions from USCIS is different than A-number we wrote on the application (From her OPT STEM Extension EAD card).

I am wondering if this is a mistake or does USCIS assign you a new number once you apply for AOS? Thank you and we appreciate your replies!

I originally applied for AOS (marriage based to a USC adjusting from B2) in the late 1980's and received an "A" number back then. We had our initial interview and I received a temporary green card (stamp in my passport) but we never completed the process as we separated and divorced prior to the two year mark. Fast forward to this year and I applied for AOS again with my current wife (also USC) and we submitted the paperwork using the previously assigned "A" number. Throughout the process this number remained unchanged and is the same number that is now on my 10 year green card. My "A" number also does not start with a "2" FWIW.

Admittedly in both cases I was filing for AOS, so that may have something to do with the number being unchanged.
