Miracle finally happened : )

Timeline is in my signature.

Last things that happened - we went to talk to our officer's supervisor again (not info pass) 2 months after they received my medical, which was December 11. We generously gave them 60 days to make a decision on their own lol, but they didn't appreciate it :-D Anyway, he said they will make a decision on the same day and we will find out by Wednesday. Nothing changed on the website by Wednesday, so i called uscis number on Thursday before heading back there, asked to talk to a tier 2 officer and i was told that the petition has been approved and the card is ordered. Received the approval notice today (date on the notice - December 12). I was waiting for the notice before telling you all, just in case (what if i hallucinated that phone call? lol).

1008 days total. Or 2 years 9 months and 2 days this AOS took. Anyone knows someone who waited longer or am i the winner? lol

As of today the website is still not updated, in fact it hasn't been updating since 2015.

Our officer made many mistakes. Everything on the NOID was incorrect. She asked for the same documents two (even three) times, and still missed a lot of information. One of the lawyers i talked to knew her and told me she is very disorganized, which seems like true. So, i am sure that we just got a bad luck. C'est la vie.

If anyone is in a similar situation right now and made a 100500 info pass appointments and service requests, i advise you not to waste your time on them anymore, they don't know anything. I mean seriously. I was told once by info pass that my case is taking too long because there is no visa number available - which is incorrect, i don't need a visa number. I don't know how the offices are organized but skip the info pass and tell someone you need to talk to your officer's supervisor. Of course don't do it 2 weeks after the interview. They will give you a bunch of ####### - you'll learn to work/talk around it haha : ) You don't have a right to demand a green card but you have a right to ask for a decision, you paid them to work on your case, they are obligated to make a decision and such a long wait is unreasonable. Good luck : ) (also try your best to find a meaning in this situation, it helps. PM me if you need help with that : ) )

Question to everyone who received a GC in the past. I only have my last name on the mail box, will the post office deliver it still? I heard form someone that it was a problem, the GC was returned and and the person had to put their first and last name. Anyone only had a last name, were there any problems?

And since the website is not updating and i can't see if my card was shipped - those who received a GC recently please mention how long it took since the day of the decision. Thank you : ) Im planning a trip abroad and i read on tripadvisor that some airlines don't know about the passport stamp and people had problems boarding planes, so i'd rather wait for the card.

And also thank you all for your support during all these years! I am very glad that i got to know all of you, which wouldn't have happened if my case didn't take this long. <3 Hope my story will be helpful to someone. Actually i hope no one will ever go through anything like this : )

  • October 11 2016: Response to RFE is received by uscis (the RFE was ridiculous. Basically all same papers we ALREADY GAVE HER at the interview: bank statements, lease, etc).
  • October 20 2016: Infopass, useless, did not have time to wait for the supervisor.
  • November 9 2016: Infopass, talked to the supervisor, he said there are no problems with our case and he will make sure the officer will make a decision within a few days. Gave us his email and phone number, told us to contact him directly instead of going to info pass.
  • November 15 2016: emailed the supervisor, since a few days have passed and still no decision. No response.
  • November 17 2016: called the supervisor, no answer.

  • November 22 2016: sent Service Request about i-485 (Lol[2])
  • November 23 2016: talked to the supervisor again to learn that..........my medical and fingerprints have expired and i need to wait for a notice to do it all again.
  • November 25 2016: The response from the Field Office Director Martha Medina-Maltes: your case is pending and every effort is being made blah blah blah
  • December 5 2016: Received a response to i-485 SR that my case is "pending supervisor review"... absolutely random since the supervisor said i'll need redo my medical and fingerprints again.
  • December 19 2016: Went to USCIS, the officer came out and told me we need to come back for a 2nd interview!!! I'm shocked because our marriage is 100% real and i can't believe they have doubts about it! But i'm glad that it's at least something.
  • December 27: 2nd interview (Strokes). Reason: i-130 petition. We did fine but the officer said we will receive a NOID! Our lawyer said it must be something else, not our answers... but what?!

2017

  • Jan 23 - infopass, asked if anything was mailed regarding i-130. Were told that nothing was.
  • Jan 27 - sent a service request regarding I-130.
  • March 1 2017 - went to uscis (no info pass), our officer's supervisor finally gave us the noid full of nitpicking and lies, that shows that they do not pay attention to anything.
  • March 10 2017 - 2 years AOS anniversary...wow.
  • March 31 - The response to the noid is received by uscis!
  • June 1st - went to the office, the supervisor promised we will get the decision in 4-6 weeks.
  • July 19 - 7 weeks passed, went back to uscis. The supervisor said he will give the case to the officer tomorrow, we asked when we will get the decision, he said he doesn't know.
  • September 6: My husband talked to the supervisor again, he said he gave the case to the other officer, and the case is huge so the officer has a lot to do, and we will get a decision in 2 weeks.
  • September 25: Went back since no decision was received (as expected). The supervisor said the same thing: we will get a decision in 2 weeks
  • September 29: USCIS asked for medical! Eureka! First time in 2 and a half years they sent something by themselves!  i-130 still not approved.
  • October 2: Notice that i-130 is approved (notice date September 26, still no online update). Also went to get medical done (should be ready by the end of the week)
  • October 3:  biometrics
  • October 10: medical delivered to uscis! The waiting games begins again
  • December 11: 2 months after medical was delivered talked to the supervisor again, he said the decision will be made BY tomorrow and we will find out from the website on Wednesday.
  • December 14: Called uscis, tier 2 officer told me that the case is approved.
  • December 18: Received Approval notice (Dated December 12)

Long story short:
After the initial interview we received:

1) a RFE asking for the same papers again,

2) then were asked to come to the 2nd interview that went fine of course,

3) then a NOID that was full of mistakes.

All that was given to us in person, only when we made our way straight to our officer. And still waiting. Lots of fun (not).

4) 6 months after receiving our response to the noid i-130 is approved. 2 years 6 months and 16 days of waiting for i-130. Supposed to take 5 months. No words.

5) After 2 years 9 months and 2 days (or 1008 days) of waiting i-485 is approved.

Hello,

Bumped into your post and I'm in a similar situation. My husband filed for AOS on 11/2016 and we just received an RFE asking to redo his biometrics. It's been 2 weeks since they have received it but we haven't been given a notice of receipt or next steps. The website is completely useless as well and in NY, they are not even accepting info pass appointments. Calls Only. How did you locate your officer? Where could I find my officer and contact? THANKS

Hi! Sorry about your situation.

If you got a request to do biometrics again then it’s a good sign, they were probably about to approve, found out that biometric expired and had him do it again. But in case I’m wrong keep reading.

We were just going there every two weeks and talking to different people, I don’t remember the details, but our office is divided into infopass area and area where interviews take place.

Once someone from infopass told us to go upstairs (interview area) and ask them. So we did.

We told them that people from infopass told us to come up so they called someone. We talked to one of the supervisors, I don’t remember what she said, but nothing happened so we went back. I think we told to her again....then nothing happened again....then we went back and talked to someone else..... repeated this many times.

They don’t like you coming to the interview area where all the offices and supervisors are. What really helped is that one of the supervisors gave us his business card (shocking!) and told us the name of our officer’s supervisor (also shocking!) , for future reference let’s call him Mike. So after that we were just coming in, showing them this business card and telling them that this person whose card it is told us that we need Mike. They became a lot more friendly and were actually calling Mike for us. Sometimes it took hours to wait for Mike. We saw Mike many times before our case got approved. So, it took a lot of effort.

I wish the best of luck to you!

❤️ Hope my story will be helpful to someone. Actually i hope no one will ever go through anything like this : )

Great news finally!

Fear we may have an issue like this..... We met with our officer who seemed like she didn't really look over our documentation before arriving. Lots of questions and she tried to correct us with wrong information after only to check our documentation to say oh yes. May I ask how you got to your officer's supervisor on the phone line? Was it only because you had a card or would there of been another way?

We are currently working through an RFE which was supposedly sent on 11/28/18 - which we had to call and escalate through tier 2 twice because we never received the mail.  I was delivered on 1/3 with a note showing where we had requested it to be resent. We mailed our reply on 1/10 and delivered on 1/11. The system still hasn't updated to reflect that it was received and worried they may try to say we didn't respond to the RFE now.

Supposedly one of the agents updated the RFE online extending our deadline for a response but I didn't see that reflected in the letter we got.

Did you begin the process with a lawyer or did you have to get one near the end? My wife, who we are filing for, is very worried they may either deny our case all together now or just keep extending it.

Edit - just realized this post is super old but guessing it could still apply. I did see you got a lawyer after your first RFE. Would you wait in our case or go see a lawyer at this point?

We talked to him in person, not over the phone. But actually we had his phone number as well :) If i remember correctly the other supervisor who gave us his business card wrote down his phone number for us.

We began without a lawyer but had to get one near the beginning, actually. We received a RFE right after filing that stated that my husband does not make enough money to be my sponsor (not true, another uscis mistake and they had plenty of evidences). So we weren't sure what to do and we hired a lawyer.

Haha it's ok, i actually don't know how this post went unnoticed because i had a huge thread about my situation before 😅 I guess there was some other more popular post at the same time i started this one. Don't pay attention to what the system says, they sent me a message that my case was approved a year later 😂 If you want a lawyer i think you should ask what exactly this lawyer can do. Because honestly our could not help us with the delay, we had to do everything ourselves. If they offer you some good options go ahead :) But on the other hand you only waited for less than a month after it was received. You should give them 2 months before you start pushing them. Good luck!

Story of my almost 3 years long pending AOS - click below for details

Spoiler

2015

  • March 10 2015 - USCIS received i-130/i-485
  • March 30 2015 - got a RFE saying that my husband cannot be my sponsor because of his income, which is not true, but we didn't know what to do so we hired a lawyer.
  • August 10 2015 - interview (went great, by the way). Were told to wait 120 days.
  • December 10 2015, April 10 2016, May 10 2016 - sent SR, responses: "your case is pending"

2016

  • May 25 2016 - Went to Info Pass, the case is taken to the supervisor, were told we will get something in 30 days (of course, after 30 days we got nothing....).
  • June 27 2016 - Went to Info Pass again, they told us to wait for 2 more weeks and if we still get nothing send a service request letter by mail. Did it on the same day.
  • June 27 2016 - After Infopass, went to senator Durbin office in Chicago.
  • July 8 2016 - Went to Mike Quigley office.
  • July 8 2016 - Received useless response from Durbin. All they know is that the case is pending and it's in Chicago, can't do anything else.
  • July 12 2016: Infopass, spoke to the supervisor, promises promises.... more wait.
  • July 17 2016: Filed Ombudsman.
  • July 26 2016: Another info pass, same story. We talked to 3 supervisors already! I don't get it!
  • July 29 2016: Sent another useless SR just because.
  • Aug 9 2016: Talked to the officer we had interview with! She was supposed to mail us RFE a year ago but she forgot (!!!) ! They admitted it. Gave us RFE.
  • November 17 2016: sent Service Request about i-130 (Lol, like that will help..)
  • November 19 2016: sent a letter to the director of Chicago Field Office.

Glad we waited!

Just got a call back from our office, she called my wife who didn't answer and then called me. Said she's adjudicating the case and just wanted to know if my wife was planning to change her name or leave it since it was filed under her maiden name..... I said wait so we're good? She said yep and said it should be here within the week!  Such good news!! Even went the extra mile to call and ask about her last name is awesome. Take back all the bad stuff I said about our agents haha.

Excellent advice. thank you very much

Hi so bottom line do you think its ok to send a letter to your immigration officer?  We are 9mth after our interview at Baltimore field office.  5 SR, one Congressman inquiry and still nothing.  I really want to reach out to our Immigration officier but not sure my hubby is comfortable he scared that might anger them.  Your thoughts???
