Hello everyone,

I’m going to be traveling back to Europe in one week to see my family for the first time since 2 years and I was wondering if you have any travel advice? My last name in my passport is different than in my green card ( and I won’t be able to change it till at least summer). Therefore, my last name on the ticket is my maiden name as I heard that they won’t even let you board onto the plane if it’s different than in your passport.

My case was pretty straightforward, I’m a green card holder since June 2017. I was planning to take with me : my marriage certificate, my old passport with (voided now) visa, my new passport and a green card.

All advice would be appreciated. Thank you

Have traveled with my wife outside of the US a few times.  She is a GC holder with her married name passport holder with her maiden name.  We combined both names for her airline tickets:  married maiden/first

Never had a problem....in fact, this is what the airline suggested and we have copied since that first time.

That’s a good idea! I’ll remember it for a future reference. Thank you

Just to add to my response.  Like you,my wife’s passport and GC names do not match, so we always get her tickets in her maiden name and she always Travels with a copy of the marriage certificate.  To date and after five trips to visit her mother and she has only been asked about the name difference one time at the Beijing Airport when checking into her flight back to Detroit.  She showed the marriage certificate and all was good.

Sounds like you have everything you need all ready for your trip!

Booking with both last names is nice for future trips and getting all documents in one name down the road is a good idea. Until then, bring what you listed above and have a lovely trip! Enjoy the time with your family! :)
