Problem entering US?

I want to fly my fiance over here into US on December 27 and to have her stay until January 20. The thing is that I want to pay for her airfare one way at a time.

She is from México.

So my questions is...

Would there be an issue if she were to arrive into the US without a return ticket just yet? I plan to purchase her return ticket after I get my paycheck (on December 29, therefore, after she would arrive in the US).

It's important to note that she would come here just for the holidays, as vacation. We do not plan to marry during this time nor do any sort of paperwork. Simply vacation time. But I'm concerned they might not let her in and would force her to go back to México if she enters the US without a return ticket...

What should I do?

So much of visiting is up to the immigration officer at the time of the arrival and what they believe your fiance's motives are.  Arriving without a return ticket can look quite suspicious depending on what other proof or situation your fiance has to prove ties to their country and no intent to immigrate upon arrival.  The rest of this is pretty heavy guess work, so please forgive me if i'm wrong and do not take offense.

Since you are buying their plane ticket I am guessing that financially they may need the assistance, which is just fine but I am just saying that if they do not have a job to return to here (Especially since they are leaving the country for a month) it will give the CO less reason to believe that they have a reason to return.  Are they attending a university or anything else that can prove that they will indeed return?

Basically.. Is there anything that would make the officer believe that they will indeed return to mexico when faced with a person who did not buy their own ticket, and only has a one way ticket?   Either way though.. Good luck, and I hope it all goes well and you get to enjoy the vacation time together, but be as safe as possible!  The thought of my fiance getting pushed away on her 2 Month ESTA visit nearly destroyed me until she was through the airport, so try to close as many weak holes as possible.

She can buy it or use a Credit Card, returns are usually cheaper.

I would try to look at this from the CBP officer’s point of view.  Someone entering the country to visit their fiancé over the holidays with no return ticket would look suspicious to most officers in my opinion.  Will she be able to show close ties to Mexico to try and convince an officer that she has compelling reasons to return after her visit?

I would at least buy the round trip ticket.

Good Luck!

Most countries won’t allow you to buy a one way ticket to the US. Sometimes you must have your tickets booked even before your visa interview and if you don’t have a return ticket they won’t issue the visa. You’re just asking for trouble. Just cough up the money. It’s gonna be even cheaper buying a round trip ticket.
