Hi all,

 

I applied December 2016 to remove my conditional greencard status and hopefully get my 10 year GC.

I received my notice of a 1 year extension to my current GC which had an expiry of 1/28/2017, the notice letter is dated 12/19/2016. 

 

I have to travel to the UK for work next week and will be flying back home to the US Christmas Eve, will I have any trouble as the GC expired 1/28/2017 and the 1 year extension letter is dated 12/19/16?

 

I called USCIS last month and was told that they are current processing August 2016 applications, so some time away from mine. I was also told the letter is a 1 year extension from the expiry of the GC, I hope this is true as I don’t want to miss Christmas with my wife and kids in Florida!

 

I tried to get a USCIS Office appointment, but all the centers near me in South Florida have no availability for the next 14 days, I check this daily and it’s always the same!

 

Any advice greatly appreciated.

You shouldn’t have a problem, since the letter is intended to extend your green card for 1 year from the expiry date. (So 1/28/18). 

Sometimes, though, people do get pulled into secondary or have trouble being allowed to board, due to the ambiguous language in the letter. (They’ve now altered the letter’s wording to specify 1 year from original expiry but that doesn’t help us)

Bring this with you and if you have trouble boarding you can show them page 38 which explains how it’s supposed to work.

I didnt have any trouble at all returning from my business trip from Korea. But now my I-797 has expired and I cannot get an Infopass appointment here in FL, everytime I try it says no appointments for the next 14 days. Is there any otherway I can get an i-767 extension of I-551 stamp?

I am told by USCIS staff on the phone I cannot just show up at my local office.
