Trump Calls Immigrants With Lottery Visas ‘Worst of the Worst’

Trump attacking DV again. As some of you might remember, he previously DV participants not the best of their country but today he called the actual winners worst of the worst. Is the lottery rigged to pick the rapists, killers, human traffickers, war criminals that somehow Trump knows?

I particularly liked how he portrayed picking the winners with his tiny hand up and mouth open right around 34-35 sec mark.

 

Feels like the day he's gonna attack the merit-based immigrants is not too far either. ... they are sending us the worst of the worst doctors, engineers, and scientists. Be prepared folks.

If you look at the language of Trump, Bannon and other Nationalists, it has always been about stemming  legal migration. The talk about build a wall and sanctuary cities made for great campaigning, but the real culprit for them is that America is being politically and economically undermined by immigration and free trade.

Do you really believe Trump can stop legal immigration?  I don't think he can, personally.  Let's see going forward.

 

I admit it is tragic he is painting all DV folks with such a broad brush.   I happen to know some really awesome lottery winners.

Yes. He could try certainly. The problem is do the public know enough and care enough about immigration and the system to ride their Rep's backsides to put a stop to it? The comments he made today about immigrants were cringeworthy and hurtful. I would agree that the DV program needs some reforms (as do most areas of the system) but this is one part of a larger issue - when it comes to family based immigration (and he's starting to mention that too). Take a look at the various things that Cotton has said for instance (and the immigration reduction groups he gets lobbied by) implies very strongly that what they are interested in is legal immigrants. BTW, Tillerson will be gone soon, and Cotton is said to be a potential replacement. That will not be a good thing for anyone that cares about legal immigration- especially legal family based immigration. We'll all be lumped into the ''chain migration'' diatribe which is filled with utter falsehoods for political game. They are going to start framing it that way in an attempt to get support. Several TV ads (from those same lobbying groups) have begun to run nationally on this issue this week. It's more than tragic... it's downright disgusting.

Not stop but he can certainly try to reduce it to half . Cotton and Perdue introduced a bill to reduce legal immigration by 50%.
Under the guise of "they send us the worst of the worse" it is a Nationalist's dream to slash immigrant numbers.
First of all nobody and no country  "sends" us anyone and as I stated before the average immigrant (not by RAISE standards) 
works hard, is innovative and entrepreneur oriented and ambitiously driven to succeed.
To implement the RAISE standard causes not only drain brain in foreign countries but is ridiculous in regards to understanding the 
motivation of the average immigrant who gets a chance here to succeed.
For example, my immigrant spouse works circles around the US co workers as a lead in a manufacturing plant, passing people up for 
key positions on the way to the top that have been there for decades.
Being the only one from that department to receive an award but would not have matched up to the RAISE point schedule
 but that does not make my spouse any less valuable for the company. Quite the opposite.
Legal immigration and that includes the DV needs tweaking here and there to improve the system but it does not need to be slashed 50% nor is

RAISE the way to go.

I hear you.  My wife went to work for the local Sam's club after she arrived.  Part time, as is the Wal Mart way.  Within 2 months, her pic was on 5 of the 6 performance parameters board, she was outselling everyone like 3-1, and she asked for and received full time status.  The store manager said no one had done that in over 5 years  (full time), and no one in the store's history ever sold so many credit cards in 2 months.  Bentonville HQ sent people all the way to Alaska just to meet her and observe her working.

 

No one works as hard as those who want to better their lives and are willing to WORK for it.

He can certainly try. if the bill becomes law, pretty much legal immigration would be bound to EBs and spouses. Next could be employment rights to spousal GCs, make it harder to sponsor spouses. Then eventually EBs for only certain professions and degrees.
