My husband had his visa interview in Juarez on August 23, 2017 he was denied the visa but he was told to apply for the I 601 waiver. So we did. USCIS received it September 19th, 2017. According to their processing times in Nebraska they are currently working on cases from October 2016!  My heart sank when I saw it so we're looking at this whole process taking about a year or so? We were thinking 4 to 6 months tops. He already missed out on the birth of our son. I'm just wondering if any one out there had a normal processing time or is it really taking that long?

~6-12 months is a reasonable estimation.

Yes it is taking that long.

 

It used to be 3-6months tops but since they started accepting I-601a from those still in the United States illegally, it slowed it down for those who voluntarily  returned home prior to the new rule that allowed people to file while still leaving illegally in the United States. I submitted that of my spouse since December 2016 and we are still waiting for our approval letter. Your best bet is to get a lawyer and see if he/she can help you get it expedited. I choose to wait and not use a lawyer because I have already been waiting 5yrs before we submitted the waiver application.
